Yes, it was the evening before the Passover.
I'll look it up; hold on.
Jesus died at 3:00 P.M. in the afternoon.
Matthew 27: 45 - 56
Mark 15:33 - 41
Luke 23:44 - 49
Jesus is taken from the cross:
John 19:31 - 34
31 Since it was the day of Preparation, the Jews did not want the bodies left on the cross during the Sabbath, especially because that Sabbath was a day of great solemnity. So they asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and the bodies removed.
32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out.
The Jewish Sabbath is on Saturday which actually begins (I believe) at sundown on Friday.
I'm sure there are one or two Jewish people on this site that will be able to confirm or deny when Passover begins.
Also, when you have a combination of water and blood, it was explained to me that the body has already been dead for a few hours.
As to why the Christian Sabbath is on Sunday and not Saturday that is because on the third day (Jesus died on Friday, the first day, laid in the tomb during the Passover on Saturday, the second day and rose from the dead on Sunday, the third day) when Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven He fulfilled every letter of the old Hebraic law and by His sacrifice He purchased salvation for all of humanity who follow him.
His was the last blood sacrifice and appeased God so much that no further sacrifice is needed or wanted by God for us.
Jesus has already paid for our ticket home (Heaven).
He only asks us to follow Him and do as He has bid us to do.

Yes because He rose on Sunday and that's why we celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday now instead of Saturday.

we don't know which day---
majority of christians set aside good friday to respect ans worship that day...
the day he die or resurrected is moot.
that he did is what's revelant...
his birth not dec 25th but that date is set aside...
I have no problems with not being 1000000-0% accurate.
I know he died for you and me and all--that we might have life.
