I tried to do something like this a few years back. Looking for some friends of mine who had relatives serving in the 1950's and 60's.

I was hitting a lot of dead ends when someone suggested I contact my local chapter of the VFW. I got the number out of the phone book and what do you know...they had several members who did these kind of searches as a hobby, to set up reunions, help guys get benefits, etc. It took about 4-5 weeks, but they came through for me.
