While it might be nice to think that we'll visit our long dead relatives and that we can look forward to a life of eternal bliss, but without evidence, its just fanciful thinking.
There's not one scintella of proof that there exists an afterlife. Because the bible says so, is not proof. All we have is anecdotal stories about near death experiences and sightings of ghosts. The belief in an afterlife helps to cushion humans from the harsh reality of our impending death and utter annihilation....sorry.

Everything is energy. So basically, everything affects everything...it is all connected in one perfect gestalt of joyous lively existence.
"Afterlife" is misleading, as are all words, but we must use them. There is only life.
One's beliefs while "here" will determine to a large extent, what they will find on "the other side", until reality sets in, and they see clearly the joys of creativity. What we do here amounts to the same thing we do in the dreams we have as we sleep.
Loving thoughts are the best way to affect (not really the right word) the other side (not really the right term). Loving thoughts are the world's only reality.

Indeed. And there are things we do on earth that affect it; essentially, it's a good vs. bad equation. Regardless of religion, bad deeds will secure you a spot in the lower planes; higher deeds will grant you a spot in the higher planes. Willful ignorance is considered to be a bad deed, which is why many evangelicals will NOT make it to the highest of the higher planes: "Heaven."
Oh, and by the way, you will be reincarnated after a certain amount of time; the afterlife is not forever, until after the End of Time, which despite Christian thought will not happen for a very long time.

Ultimately the person themselves determines their eternal resting place. If you accept Jesus as your savior, then the bible says that you will have eternal life. John 3:16. And yes there is one particular thing that we all do that can affect that (sin), But Our father being a loving father also gives us a way to correct our sin 1John 1:9

If you accept the fact that Jesus died for your and my sins. There is nothing we can do ourselves to earn our place in heaven. That is why Jesus had to die for the sins of this world.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the light, no man can come to the Father (God) except through him.
Yes there is an afterlife called eternity.
