These rules apply to Jews and Muslims only.

The only reason for the banning of certain animals, and parts of animals, is because God said so. It is a form of religious discipline. Later on, it was attempted to be justified by health concerns. The rules are this:

Meat can not be removed from a live animal, blood cannot be consumed, a baby animal cannot be cooked in the milk of its mother (an old religious practice, and also the reason for separating dairy and meat), and it bans suet. You also can't eat meat from the hind quarters, where the sciatic nerve is. Animals must be killed quickly and humanely, with a quick severing of the carotid (sp?) artery.

Acceptable animals to eat must have a split hoof and be cud-chewing, thus pigs are out, along with bear, rodents, horses, elephants, primates, frogs, reptiles, etc.

For fish, they must have scales and fins. This eliminates sharks, eels, and all shellfish (lobster, shrimp, clams, etc.)

For birds, you can't eat birds of prey or carrion.

Well I eat pork and I'm a Christian, but it has to do with the Bible saying that the pig is an unclean animal.
A couple of reasons for this is that a pig used to be a scavenger and it would eat everything from corpse to waste.
Another reason is that pork unless it is cooked at very very high temperatures and frozen at very low temperatures has worms in it. Its more of a dietary law than spiritual. Which goes to show that God is not constrained to "religious" issues.

It is a scientific fact that you are what you eat. Pigs eat doo do,so that makes them doo do, and if you eat the pig you are eating what???

Isa 66:17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating SWINE'S FLESH (PORK), and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed (BURNED) together, saithYahweh.

Isa 24:5 The earth also is defiled because of the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the Laws, changed the ordinance, and broken the everlasting covenant.

6 Because of this, the curse has devoured the earth, and they who dwell therein are desolate; therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

The Earth is defiled due to the eating of the swines flesh that cause sickness and disease in man, that why the Law of Yahweh was given to man as a guide of health and long life, don't believe the Satan inspired lie that the Law is not for every one...

Ex 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Don't believe the lie.

I think you mean Jews and Muslims. The prohibition against eating pork was prescribed in the biblical Book of Leviticus. Christian theology holds that Christians aren't under the Law of Moses. The prohibition against eating pork was carried over to the Qur'an. Jews, do, however, follow the 613 laws in the Torah, and because of this, do not eat pork.

It makes good sense in the deserts. Pigs are unclean feeders, rooting through soil (and anything else they can get their snouts in to). This means that they do pick up lots of parasites, and the flesh tends to go off quite quickly when they are dead. The same applies to shellfish, which are filter feeders - where do you think all the raw sewage ends up?

Of course, in Europe and maybe America, this is not a problem any more, because we have moved on. Religion does not change, which is why it so often gets stuck in the past and becomes an irrelevance.

these were the Bible's "dietary laws". These are a list of meats which God instructed Israel not to eat, found in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14.Most Christians consume "unclean" meats not out of rebellion, but because of a belief that New Testament scriptures permit them to do so. The belief that Old Testament instructions on the consumption of animal flesh are no longer applicable is often referred to as "Christian liberty" (i.e. "freedom" from the "restrictions" of the Old Testament). "If you have really died with Christ to the principles of this world, why do you still let rules dictate to you, as though you were still living in this world?- 'do not pick up this, do not eat that, do not touch the other,' and all about things which perish even while they are being used-according to merely human commandments and doctrines." I Timothy 4:4, which states (in the NJB).

"Everything God has created is good, and no food is to 'be rejected, provided if is received with thanksgiving: the word of God and prayer make it holy."

The Bible forbids the eating of pork for jews, but for Christians, it is perfectly fine. But there is always a reason for God to ban something from us. A pigs immune system is almost a carbon copy of a humans, so it's easy for disease to be passed from pigs to humans, and vice-versa. Pigs in fact, can transfer some animal diseases to humans that wouldn't normally affect us. Pigs are very nasty to have around in that respect.

Pigs in the Bible also symbolize the lives of unregenerated humans, so we are to avoid being like pigs ourselves. So God can teach us a lesson about ourselves, and at the same time, spare us from disease.

They do this because the scripture teaches that swine are an unclean animal. In the scripture there were clean and unclean animals and that is where they get this from. I don't eat pork, but I don't think it is a sin to eat pork either.
