I love standard poodles. Nice size, way more intellegence than is good for them, and they DON"T SHED!!! Woot!!!

Love them. But they do have a slight effeminate air to them. You should know that they use to be a choice dog for hunters, and that's what they were bred for. Great swimmers, fur doesn't get waterlogged, and extremely smart. All the qualities you want from a hunting dog. Then somebody started breeding them with rats, and so we got the toy poodle which ruined the standard's rep.

Our 35 pound poodle was anything but uppity! She was a country dog, and so very smart! However, the clip makes them appear prissy..Even though it was originally intended to aid them in water retrieving..
Poodles were bred as birding dogs, flush and retrieve..that is why the Labradoodles don't seem so offensive to me..as they are both birding breeds..

Some poodles are uppity, it just depends how they are raised. I know a few who are, but there are some who are downright cute and little angels. Unfortunately I dont groom any that are angels lol they all hate their feet and legs being done. Think thats where they get their reputation lol.

Hey, I believe you. As a kid I had 2 poodles - one grey toy named Patti that "ruled". She was never skittish but very protective of me and my mom. We also had Punky - a miniature black who was quite the "man" dog. He protected all of us and even his girl Patti. My sister had a standard black poodle named Charlie and his only problem was that he had epilepsy otherwise he was a wonderful dog. My daughter has a white toy poodle named Libby who loves it when we sing "Libby, Libby, Libby on the label, label, label. She is a little sassy. They are one of the smartest breeds of dogs. Believe me I know this because I has a Basset Hound along with Libby when my daughter lived with me and she could out run, out think Amber (Basset) any time. Amber would just look at her with this kinds duh look. Poodles are wonderful. It's all how they are raised.
