It's almost impossible to find an insurance company that will cover pit bulls, and if you do it'll cost you a fortune. When I worked for a rental company, our insurance company had a list of "dangerous dog breeds" and so we absolutely could not rent to anyone who had dogs of a breed on the list. Pit bulls, German shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Akitas, and Huskies were the main ones they didn't want. Insurance companies don't consider whether a particular dog is vicious or not. They just won't take a risk.

In certain states I've heard a lot of places now are easy to cover them if you go through a certain amount of training or pass a temperament test or things like that... However, I haven't had any luck changing my homeowners insurance because of my dog, even though she's been through Canine Good Citizen and all that. I would check with your local humane society or animal control to see if anyone knows...

I have renters insurance that covers my belongings. I inquired about insurance to cover my dog and my agent informed me he was already cover on my policy. He was nice enough to include the dog with out me realizing it when I took out the insurance. I have a 66lb American Bulldog. My company is Security Equities.

I seriously doubt that you will be able to find any insurance company willing to provide coverage for a pitbull, not for any amount of money.
