Hi, I have a daughter who just turned one and had her 1 yr. check up last week. You should start giving your child whole milk at the age of 1. My doctor said that it is necessary that until your child turns 2, he/she needs to have whole milk. After 2 the child can have 2% or whatever your family drinks Whole milk helps develop the brain and the nervous system. She also said that you should give the milk in a sippy cup. You are supposed to take away the bottle at age 1. One other important thing she told me is not to give your baby more than 3 8oz cups of milk (24 oz total per day) or else it could cause your child to become anemic. Besides the whole milk your child should be drinking plenty of water. Hope this helps!

I've had 3 kids, and have always stopped at 12 months. What I did was give them food, and juice no formula the day before I started them on regular milk. That way I didnt go from one to the other right away. Might have nothing to do with it but it worked for me. They never got sick.
Good Luck

You don't have to stop at 12 months, but you can start giving them whole milk at that point...there are other formulas out there for the older child...i never used them or would recommend them they are pricey and they will do just fine on whole milk unless there is a medical reason to not give them milk

I've always heard 12 months also. I started giving my daughter whole milk at lunch time and at supper time around 11 months...just so I could make sure she would adjust to it easily. I figured she was eating her main meals at that time, so she was getting nutrition from those foods...so suplementing milk for formula wasn't bad for her. she made the transition very easily, but not to worry you, i have heard that some babies won't like the taste of their formula once they have whole milk. so it's up to you if you want to try and alternate them. but for sure switching over to whole milk around 12 months is safe for your baby.

Most babies are ok to switch to Whole milk when they are about 12 months old. Check with your pediatrician to see if they think your baby will be getting proper nutrition if you make the switch.

Twelve months is the doctors have told me. I switched my first from formula to cows milk and my second from breast to cows milk and they did fine. I didn't use any of the formulas designed for children over twelve months.

you dont need to stop as soon as your baby turn 12mnths, you can start giving your baby cows milk and solids by then, you can also train your baby to use sippy instead of feeding bottle. in my opinion continue giving the baby milk until 3 yrs old...or you can discuss this matter with your pedia
