... could you tell us again when it was that you CHOSE to be heterosexual?

2006-10-23 11:09:06 · 25 answers · asked by Bad Liberal 7 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

FWIW, here's the extent to which I think choice applies to matters of sexuality. I think if I worried I had the "wrong" sexuality, I'd CHOOSE to display the one that other people didn't beat up, persecute, seek to exclude from political office, major film roles or positions of respectability, left me living my life in fear of discovery or blackmail and the obect of loathing among people more obsessed with dwelling on and talking about the mechanics of sodomy than anyone who actually IS homosexual.

Just my opinion.

I want to know if they could 'Choose" to be attracted to a person of their same sex.

There are all sorts of things we're born with, some are attractive, others not- and you can't make a choice about that. SOme people are black, others white, again- no choice unless you're Micahel Jackson.

But as for actions-- we always have choices. And I think what you're implying is that we have no choice but to sin. We always have a choice. A heterosexual can choose to commit a specific sexual sin, and so can a homosexual. It is interesting to note that in the Bible God gives a list of 7 things He hates, and homosexuality isn't listed, but divorce is.

I wonder how many people how hold up "God hates fags" signs have been divorced, or commited adultery, or looked at porn, etc. Heterosexual-inspired sin causes MUCH more damage to society than anything gays could dream up.

But to God, sin is sin. Whether or not the person who commits it is gay or straight. Everyone is judged according to the choices they make. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and God is more than happy to cut us slack, if we let Him help us. He can help us get through anything. He wants us to be like Him. That is a tall order for any man or woman. Good luck to us all.

It's not.

Why would anyone choose to be homosexual? So they could suffer a lifetime of social ostracizing and discrimination? One would have to be insane, not just deviant. I commend those people who've found a way to live peaceful lives in our rediculously prejudicial society, but I seriously doubt there is a homosexual walking who, if given the chance to start life over hetro, wouldn't take it.

To those narrow-minded hetrosexual bible thumpers who think homosexuality is a choice, I defy you to CHOOSE to become sexually aroused by a same-sexed individual.

not a very good question. Being Heterosexual is not a choice nor does it have anything to with God or religion. Its natural. Look at the animal kingdom they do not try to get it on with the same sex and they dont follow religion. Actually speaking of which-I did watch a documentary on wolves and one of the pack a male tried to mount another male and the rest of the pack killed him weird. relax-dont get bent out of shape, I dont care about your sexual preferance or religion.

I'll probably get a lot of flak for this, but I think that few people are strictly homo- or hetero-sexual. Most of the people I meet are mostly one or the other, but would possibly, maybe, under the right circumstances, be open to a threesome - or more-some - which makes me think that maybe everyone is somewhere in the bi spectrum. Just my theory.

Ha, prejudice most definitely is an adult, intellectual decision.

It must be far easier for them to erroneously call someone elses natural way of being a "choice" than it is for them to admit they've chosen to be a narrow-minded bigots!

That's always been a good argument, and more than once I've found it to be the only one that seems to get through to people who have become used to spouting whatever they heard the preacher shout from the pulpit last Sunday.

I was born a woman, but a man needed me to carry on his name, and to be the carrier of his seed, another man could not do that for him, and i could carry on my name with another woman, nor could I have children by her, it takes the male seed, and the female egg, to reproduce, And that the way it is, there are no in betweens.

i distinctly remember falling in love with a boy named Joshua in Kindergarten. I chased him and he didnt like me. i wanted to be liked by boys because they were strong and could protect you. (well, most of them) I hated girls and their politics. they always had to outdo one another. boys never were like that, they just liked to fight and have fun. My daughter is the same way, not because I made her either. However, she is choosing to not get married and wants to become a missionary, something I never thought she would do, or even suggested... heck i thought being a doctor was just fine!!

thats a point that people cannot admit.

when did one chose color of eyes or skin or gender or height or
number of feet or toes or fingers or hair ect.

I like steak and people who don't are different or should I respect their choice of chicken or vegetables instead.

I can't judge that person based on my "likes" and I should support that person as long as it does not step on my toes.

I love my wife--others may not see what I love about her..
I don't care.....
It does not change her not me and should bother no one.

I better not set about changing her "mold into my way of thinking"
or I might get molded.

Why do you listen to them if you don't agree. What difference does it make what the answers are. If you love yourself, if you are loved by others and you love in return... what else is there? Acceptance by people you don't care about and don't care about you is highly over-rated. Don't go there. I hope you have a lovely day.
