Melatonin, which is used to help you sleep, can also act as a nice tranquilizer. Valerian root is good too. It's very mild.

Go to a heath food/drug store and look at St. John's Wort.
Ativan and Valium are in the benzodiazipan family and are addictive.

I'm not sure what you're wanting to use it for, but if you're trying to relax, my therapist told me that 30 minutes of classical music has been proven to have the same effect as 10 mg of valium. not-too-hot epsom salt baths do wonders for relaxation, too.

WOW, if you think about it kristen is right as for natural and safe.
My choice is Xanex. Not sure how safe and natural. Haven't had a problem with it.

You'll have to find this in a health store. It's called GABA I believe. Based on the chemical it works on... Good Luck...
