It's where people are paid $40 an hour, receive 30& benifits, to pick up a phone and listen. Then they hang up the phone. Then they pick up the phone again and listen. (What happens between hanging up and picking up is a mystery.)

What version?? The lovely automated phone system that basically says : "hold on 4 more time" or the wonderful and delightful people that stand or sit behind the customer service stations that are so warm & fuzzy that they gleam with happiness?? Really...cmon...what store or reatil enviroment have you gone into that provides you with "customer service"....this is a "lost art"....people just dont care or have a desire to help anyone anymore.....its really a shame cause so many companies and establishments "pledge" or "praise" this service but little to none provide this "lost Art".......

My story is from the customers side in observing what someone in customer service did: At one time after the Christmas Holiday madness I went to a Department store to check out their pants and shirt dept. While there a I noticed a really nice ski jacket on the rack. The price tag was missing and I really liked this particular one(there were no others like it there). At that point I had to go up to the customer service counter in order to find out what the price would be. It was relatively late so there was no one being serviced at the time that I arrived at the counter. At first I didn't think that anyone was there but all of a sudden a "can I help you" came out from behind this huge pile of returned clothes! When I reported that I wanted to buy this particular coat and would like a price for it the lady tried to figure out what to charge for it by looking in an indexed book of clothing items. Having sensed her frustration with regards to the mountain of garments that she had to work through I was about ready to tell her to forget about it, when she whipped around and blirted out " Honey this is your lucky night !" Next thing I knew she had put a price tag on it for $15.00 and told me that I could pay for it there. Man I was whistling all the way out of the store with a great deal and I wasn't even stealing it -so to speak ! I later saw the same jacket going for $335.00 somewhere else.

What is it now? no one knows..
What it should be? A friendly voice on the other side of the phone answering ur questions and concerns politly and complying with ur request without trying to sell u anythig or getting rude with u.

In person- A smile regardless ur attitude. Someone who is paid to try to make u feel comfortable without arguements.

Respect!! Should show professionalism. Manners.

Being able to smile and still assist someone who has just acted like the world's biggest jerk! And if you can do it without them knowing their the world's biggest jerk, you are a stellar customer service rep!

When someone actually picks up the phone and tries to help you. Sometimes lately when I do get a person on the phone it is almost like they keep passing the buck and transfer me to 10 people before I get any help.

It is something that happened in the past whereby a person received courteous assistance while at a retail establishment. I say in the past because it is a rare occurence at this date and time.
