Yes and they are. I have been in line with the police officers to take a drug test. But the crazy thing that got to me was they would give us advanced warnings that we would be needed the next day for a drug test. Plenty of time for someone to get someone else to pee for them.

Just because they are police officers does not make them exempt from drug tests. Most police agencies require random drug testing.

They are, in the departments I worked for they were random and done every day to some officers. Even in the smaller departments they did them randomly.

On the average I was tested about 4 times a year. You show up to go to work, and get a card to report to the hospital or clinic to take the test before reporting to your shift.

They are required to take drug tests, as well as polygraph tests and background checks. Most of them also have credit checks when applying for the job.

Of course they should. Should start at the Top and work down. POTUS, SCOTUS, USDOJ, both Senate and Congress and every Federal, State, and County or City Elected Official, or Employee of same. Perhaps we should include Doctors and Lawyers as well. Oh I almost forgot we must include Radio and TV hosts too. The only trouble is what do we do with the sudden increase in inmate population. Prisons and jails are already busting at the seams. Oh well, just a thought...

At our Sheriff's Department, it's mandatory random drug testing for EVERYONE. Refuse the test & you lose your job. Plain and simple.

In Boston they are. The problem is that they were announcing them in advance and getting few positives. When they tried it without announcing in advance they got so many positives the patrolmen's union stepped in and raised a fuss to make them stop doing it.
