My dog's got the runs bad. I think it's a tummy bug because my other dog had it a couple days ago. A friend said he gave his dog pepto bismol but I don't know how safe that is for dogs since meds don't work the same on them. I don't want to wait until tomorrow to see the vet since my dog is miserable tonight. Help!

I live in the city with no yard and have to walk the dog down the sidewalk that all my neighbors are trying to keep clean. I can't clean up after her because it's too liquid. They're giving me the evil eye.

Pepto is ok. I give it to my animals when they have an upset tummy. Just remember that they're small animals, and their tummies are a lot smaller than yours. So smaller doses are best.

Also, if they are eating, they need to be eating nutritious stuff because it is not all getting obsorbed the way it should. My pups liked ground beef and rice when their tummies were upset. (That's what my vet reccomends too.)

Be sure they're getting lots of fluids as well. If you think they're getting dehydrated, you can give them Pediallite NOT Gatorade! (Also advice from my vet.)

I hope this helps.

Home Remedies For Dog Diarrhea

ok, whats causing the diarrhea? Right! you don't know, if you give the poor thing pep-to tonight and then tomorrow it's better, you might decide oh well. they're better now, no reason to take them in, well, you wouldn't believe how many tiny little "critters" live in the stomach and intestines. What if you give the dog a "lil" too much pep-to? what if your dog(s) get worse? what if they die from the pep-to, SOMEBODY told you was safe to give? How would you feel? I'd make the dog(s) as comfortable as possible and wait until you get to take them to see your Vet. Better safe than sorry. **gotta water hose? it'll rinse it right away from the ground Most apartment complexes have them and also, a bucket full of soapy water**

first stop feeding it. more food creates more runs. it won't starve! let him go outside and maybe he'll eat some grass, which is neutral and will help settle the tummy. When I worked at a vets I would keep the animal on a water diet until the runs stopped, then feed small amounts until normal again.

Pepto is OK for dogs, just maybe 1 tbsp when you think they might have swallowed something sharp. Conversely, if you think they ate bad food, peroxide is what makes them barf. (Really, the vet has told me this before, I've been through it.)

No grass. Hmm, that would have been my first guess. Can you quarantine the dog in the bathroom with dry food and water for the night until you can get to the vet?

Yes, I love my dogs. Give him scrunchies for all of us.

Don't feed him tonight, just water. There isn't much else you can do if it's a bug hun. Maybe just 1 or 2 polos to settle his tummy so he can sleep, they are safer than medication and have peppermint to help with tummy upset.

What we usually recommend for dogs with diarrhea at my clinic is a bland diet which consists of boiled hamburger or chicken with rice. You can also give them some yogurt. Yogurt is good for them...helps with the bacteria in the intestines. If that doesn't help them it's time to see the vet.

give your dog some rice, you can mix a little dog food in it, but if the dog isn't eating you should take it to the vet ASAP
