Decatur, Illinois USA (2006 population approximately 85,000) was founded in 1836, is the county seat as well as the business and employment center of Macon County (pop. over 100,000).

This medium-sized Midwestern community offers many opportunities and attributes to its citizens and visitors. With a population of approximately 81,860 in the city itself, and 125,000 in the county of Macon, Decatur represents the focal point of business, shopping, and entertainment in the area. The symbol for the city of Decatur is the Transfer House, which at one time was located at the intersection of Main and Main in downtown Decatur. This symbol is also representative of the fact that Decatur grew to prominence as a major rail transportation hub in the late 19th century. Today, Decatur is the corporate headquarters for the Archer Daniels Midland Company, the huge multinational grain processor; and counts several major industrial companies within its boundaries, including: Tate & Lyle Company, Caterpillar Tractor Company, Demirjian Industries, AmerenIP Power, Wagner Castings, and Mueller Corporation to name a few. Other industries, such as Pittsburgh Plate Glass, are located in neighboring communities. While Decatur is known as a manufacturing community, it is also home to many white-collar and service based businesses.
