Your mother has it right! It is not necessary, and it is not desirable. Your skin is much more likely to get irritated if you don't have the protective hair. It gets cold, too.

Right now it's a silly fashion thing, but by next year everybody will be wondering why they ever thought it was cool. In fact, it's on the way out already, so you'll be ahead of the crowd if you leave your hair intact.

Trim off any hair that sticks out when you try on your bathing suit if you're actually going to be using the bathing suit. Leave the rest alone as nature intended. And listen to your mother - she knows more than a bunch of kinky strangers on this site.

It's not "necessary" to shave there but it's also been asked, is having pubic hair necessary (what purpose does it serve?).

It's a matter of personal preference. Keeping the public hair removed is more sanitary, and the sex is usually better. It may be the "in" thing now to get Brazilians and French waxes done but removing hair from that area has long been practiced by women in parts of the world, especially the Middle East.

Like most everyone else said-no it's not necessary. But I definately think it's much better to. You feel way cleaner. Just make sure you have a really good shaving cream. There's this stuff called Coochy (yes it really is ha) from PureRomance and it's the best ever! No bumps ever!!! But it's really whatever makes you comfortable.

I say, keep it at least trimmed down. I think that lots of hair makes me feel dirty and unclean even after I get out of a shower. With trimmed, shave or waxed areas, I feel smooth, sexier and definitely cleaner.

But it is a personal opinion and you should do what you are comfortable with. (But if you shave use patience and time, cuts down there ARE NOT pleasant)

it isn't but with std's running around most people should! shaving keeps the outside of your vagina in plain site to you! So you know if something changes! Like genital worts! If you had hair you really wouldn't be able to see whats wrong! I do on a regular basis for my own personal reasons! It's good also because most of the time in Hospitals and clinices see alot of people with full hair "down there" and the pateint doesn't know they have an std! It's because they keep all that hair and it hides everything! So be carefull!

Hi there!!

Not necessarily----most people shave or trim for sanitary reasons, to keep themselves feeling and smelling clean. Also a lot of women do it to cut down on the mess when they have their period. Either way, it's personal preference more than anything else! :)

No, hon. It is not necessary. Some people do it because they like the way it looks or the difference it makes in how sex feels or for hygiene reasons, but it is certainly not something that HAS to be done.

The answer to this question is subjective. I have friends who take everything off and others (like myself) who have the brazilian wax with just a little left there. It is up to every girl. No matter what you decide, make sure you are doing it for YOU! xoxo, Zena

It is not nessesary but if you want to I would suggest a no razer method. If you want you could always trim it but it is really iritating down there when you acctually shave it with a blade.

It depends on you. For me, I like it shaved down there. It looks clean and very easy to manage. On the top, I keep it trimmed. I don't shave on the top.
