When i drive the car to a stop, like at a junction, the engine revs go very low before returning to normal, and sometimes the engine cuts out. When diving with the revs at about 2500 rpm, it seems to miss fire occationally.
I have replaced sparkplugs, leads, distributer cap and rotor arm.
I have also gone around i think all electrical connections.
The engine seems to rev freely and responsive, and nothing wrong with starting.
It is a 1.4ltr AEX engine, 1996 P reg.
Any ideas will be very greatfully recieved

hi we have the same problem with our car we also have a seat 1.4 ibiza (P reg). it did cause me to have a an accident cus it cut out round a sharp bend and i lost control of my power steering
I took it in for a service and that seemed to sort it out. i beleive it was a censor or somethin. apperently its a common prob. i would get it checked by a seat or vw dealer to sort it out before u have an accident.

It's the Idle air control, or EGR Valve.
Other possibilities are....
TPS Throttle position sensor.
Throttle body needs cleaning..
O2 sensor,or sensors going bad.
Fuel filter restricted and needs to be changed.. These will make it miss and cause the symptoms you said you were having

Clean the idle control motor. or IAC motor ( Idle Air Control Motor)
Or clean the carbon from around the throttle plates inside the Throttle body with a rag
