I teach a course on the Middle East, which includes a segment exploring Islam in some detail. I am not Muslim.
I believe that Muslims have an intensity of belief that cannot be matched by any other religion. The word Islam means submission. They are submitting their hearts to the worship of God. A true Muslim strives to remember God at all times and act in a manner that would be acceptable to God. The mere act of praying 5 times a day has to keep the presence of God in your heart and mind constantly.
The discipline that a Muslim must maintain in service to God is quite impressive.
The concept of all Muslims praying at the same time (in the same time zone at least) all facing in the same direction and focusing their energies toward the honor of God is overwhelming.
At the end of December of this year is the annual hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca. Catch some of the images on the news programs. To see over 2 million people dedicated to the same ideals and focused on honoring God in one location and coming together in a family of man, without regard to race, ethnicity, nationality, age, wealth, or gender, is astounding to see and quite awe-inspiring.
You don't have to accept the core beliefs of Muslims to have an appreciation for and admiration of their devotion, dedication, and self-discipline.

I think your statement is a great one I personally have nothing against Muslims just the bad ones if I said i hated Muslims that would be like saying I hate whites, blacks Hispanics, Asians etc, Christians, Jews, catholics as we know how some of their priest and bishops are men, women etc. every race, country, religion has killers, child molesters, rapist, robbers, and so on to hate an entire set of people because of what one group of horrible people did and do would make us just as bad as them My positive statement would be I admire your strong faith and pray that those of you that are suffering because of what other Muslims did are able to find peace in your faith during these trying times God Bless You and God have mercy on the souls of the bad ones as he shall have mercy on the souls of the rest of us

"because of that We ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone killed a person, not in retaliation for murder, or to spread mischief in the land, it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind."(Quran, Surah al-Maidah (5), verse 32)
Something good about Islam is that true believers wouldn't dare lose their chance in the next life by killing innocent people...
When you read Quranic verses about war and fighting you have to remember that the Muslims were being attacked non stop during some of these revalations by people who didn't believe in God. We can't hide from these verses but when they are translated into english, and misquoted they are constantly used against Muslims.

I think that Muslims, like most people, are decent people. There is some good wisdom in Islam, but it is a religion and there are no gods. Like all religions, the morality is promotes is, at best, a mixed bag.

Started off well, great academics and thinkers, actually very liberal, but ran out of steam about 500 years ago. Bit like christianity really. Dinosaurs now in an age of science.

Anyone who is true to their convictions is to be praised as there are many who simply pay lip service to their God and do not adhere to the peinciples that are required for their religion.

[82] .......and you will find the nearest in love to the believers (Muslims) those who say: "We are Christians." That is because amongst them are priests and monks, and they are not proud.
