Chocolate is good for calming the nerves, that's why so many women eat (or crave) chocolate when they are about to start their period or even during their period.

Evidence is growing that chocolate is good for you

Chocolate may be better for your health than tea because it contains more of a chemical that could prevent cancer and heart disease, researchers have said

The findings follow earlier research revealing that moderate chocolate consumption offers health benefits.

The new research measures the amount of catechins - the chemical thought to be behind the benefits - in different types of chocolate.

The substance is also found in tea - leading the researchers to recommend a cup of tea with a chocolate biscuit as one way to help maintain good health.

Chocolate is actually good for you! It is still a high-fat product, but chocolate contains even more treasured antioxidants than red wine, blueberries or black tea. Hallelujah!

One of the most pleasant effects of eating chocolate is the "good feeling" that many people experience after indulging. Chocolate contains more than 300 known chemicals. Scientists have been working on isolating specific chemicals and chemical combinations which may explain some of the pleasurable effects of consuming chocolate.

Caffeine is the most well known of these chemical ingredients, and while it's present in chocolate, it can only be found in small quantities. Theobromine, a weak stimulant, is also present, in slightly higher amounts. The combination of these two chemicals (and possibly others) may provide the "lift" that chocolate eaters experience.

Phenylethylamine is also found in chocolate. It's related to amphetamines, which are strong stimulants. All of these stimulants increase the activity of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) in parts of the brain that control our ability to pay attention and stay alert.

Only quality dark chocolate is good for you and only in moderation. It is full of healthy antioxidants. It can help fight disease . Milk chocolate is not good for you. Researchers have said that the milk in milk chocolate wipes out the benefits from the antioxidants. If you want the benefits , don't even drink milk with dark chocolate.

Studies in two prestigious scientific journals say dark chocolate -- but not white chocolate or milk chocolate -- is good for you.

What is it about dark chocolate?

The answer is plant phenols -- cocoa phenols, to be exact. These compounds are known to lower blood pressure.

Chocolates made in Europe are generally richer in cocoa phenols than those made in the U.S. So if you're going to try this at home, remember: Darker is better.

Recent research shows that chocolate can provide natural health-promoting substances called flavonoids.

Since flavonoids seem to help prevent heart disease and cancer, the idea of eating chocolate sounds like a tempting and delicious way to better your health. The complete message is, however, that although chocolate might be preferable to other treats, it is no substitute for vegetables and fruits, which also contain flavonoids.

Dark chocolate with at least 75% cocoa is good for you. It has antioxidants but only a small square a day.

Dark chocolate is. It has flavanoids in it that are great for your body. Milk chocolate is not, because it has little to no flavanoids in it and it is also high in fat and sugar.
