My computer has a XP and Linux harddrive. I tried to start it after removing the Linux harddrive and Windows will not start. I reinstalled the Windows boot loader but it still doesnt boot it just keeps reseting. I have tried the XP Install CD but it says loading but then blacks out. I need to fix this I have important files to recover. Would it be possible to get them off of the drive? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Xp was the primary OS on the master drive. Linux on slave.

Run fdisk from a boot disk or floppy to see what the partitions settings are, DO NOT DELETE, CREATE OR CHANGE PARTITIOMS. Check to see if the windows partition is set to active, otherwise windows will not be able to see it even tho bios does.

First thought is replace the Linux drive. I am also assuming you had both OS's installed on separate HDD's. If you were running a dual boot system on one drive this may be a lot more difficult. Which OS was the primary OS? If you had separate drives and teh Linx drive was primary then you need to change the jumpers on the Windows HDD to primary or perhaps cable select. The system will not boot to the HDD if it is seen in the BIOS as a sloave drive. If your main concern is retrieving lost files the easiest way is to slave the curretn drive off another PC then copy the files off the drive. You do not need to boot to it...just have to access and read from it.
