I am going through the name change process and decided to call the court to find out how much it cost to file the forms. In La county it's 320 bucks! Is there any other way to do this legally? Any cheaper way maybe? I also have to publish the legal notice of name change in a newspaper for 4 weeks, thats going to cost me 105 bucks. Man this name change process is expensive. I know you can get fees waived if you have low income but I'm working and making over 40k a year.

No, there's no other way. If you're working and making that much, and it's important to you, you'll find the funds. And there's more to it on the government side than just typing some simple little thing into the computer that says your name is now changed.

What's cheapest is living with whatever you've already got.
