what inspired you to start cooking, and tell me what was your all most best meal when you were a kid?

My great grandmother inspired me and I enjoyed making Spaghetti from scratch most.

That's a very easy question for me.
As a kid on our birthdays (there were 7 kids) is was a special treat for us to choose our own menu for dinner.

I always chose broiled chicken (the thigh my favourite), mashed potatoes rich with butter & cream, milk gravy using the drippings from the chicken as a base, baby peas, garden salad and for my birthday cake......................

The inspiration to cook came from the fact that mom did not teach anyone how to cook. (she did not want to waste food).
So when I got out on my own I just started by using common sense and tried to mimick dishes I wanted to make. Of course I had some sort of idea how to cook a roast or fry chiocken. I got to be pretty good and consulting a cook book as a reference was not out of the question.
Eventually, I started to copy dishes I had had at restaurants and since I have a really good pallate that's fairly easy for me.
Been cooking for 42 years and still love it.

The year was 1959, it was a weekly competition between my brother and I , he had an advantage being 11, me 8, I had to stand on a milk crate to see what I was doing. Every Sunday after chruch we swaped off making breakfast for our family of four. He would always make Scrambled Eggs (Dad taught him) and bacon. Me? Can't let him get the best of the kid on the crate, Mom taught me how to make Waffles, from scratch, let's put it this way, for Halloween I dressed like a Chef and on the Hat it said "Just call me Cookie". Thank You Mom

I was told that i had to learn how to cook, by my mom. I wasnt really inspired. My cooking sucks!
