I have a dining table.. that is not solid wood it has some laminate over it.. if I sand it , what kind of paint should I use.?

I have painted formica covered cabinets.

I sanded lightly, cleaned and applied a primer that my benjamin moore supplier recommended. Once that dried I painted. It came out nice. Down side is when the paint chipped You see the primer underneath. Maybe next time I'll tint the primer same color as the paint.

Laminate does not take paint very well. You can try using a very coarse sandpaper to destroy the finish then a smooth one to give you a surface to paint on. what you do then depends on the finish - try staining and varnish. Usually the best thing to do is remove the laminate and put a new laminate on.
