Hello,

I am new to the slow cooker world. I made a chili the other day in it, and after about 2 hours on low temperature, it almost looked like the chili was boiling. I know in the instruction manual it said that it will simmer throughout the cooking time, but this looked a little abnormal. Is this normal or is something wrong with my slow cooker??? It is brand new though!

Thank you for your help!!

yeah it still gets pretty hot on the low setting and if its been on for a while it will look like its simmering. It gets that hot to make sure that ever thing is fully cooked like meat. Like when you cook a roast you can put it on low and leave it over night. Since you slow cooker is brand new it probably is a little more powerful

I use a slow cooker often. When you cook something in the crock you have to keep in mind the cooking times..Slow time would be 8 to 10 or longer,on high it would be 4 to 6hrs.And yes , on low it barley seem as if it were cooking anything at all.BE PATIENT!! That's why it is called a SLOW cooker.Stews, beans,or roasts are really great. If you were to start a roast on low at 7 or 8 am. It would be ready by 4:30 or 5:00 pm.

sure as long as it is just barely simmering. Mine does the same thing and I am glad because I had one that just barely worked at all on low. Just remember to give it a stir every now and again.

Mine does the same thing on the low setting too, the only thing it did to it though was burn the stuff on the very bottom, everything else came out fine, so I guess its normal!

different slow-cookers cook differently. You will have to just keep an eye to see how fast it does cook.I had one that cooked fairly fast, so I added more water. Good luck with it......
