What kind of work did you do before? Start by making a list of all your old jobs, as well as what you accomplished at them, and put together a resume. This is a good time of year to get back into the workforce, as you can do lots of seasonal or temporary jobs to get used to it. Even part time if you want. After you get back into the swing of things, your confidence will return. Don't forget how much smarter and more mature you are now, after having children.

Start with a course, just a couple of hours a week of something you are interested in. It'll help build your confidence. This time last year I was a mess, I was washed out with the kids, having panic attacks all over. It took me 12 months to build up the courage to start a course, but I am doing computing and sign language and I love it. Meeting different people and finding out that no-one else has tons of confidence either helps you all build your confidence together. Good luck

Janine, the best thing to do is start getting out in the community more. Take a class, or a free community thing in your town/city .This might be a reading club at the library, a craft class/group, a parent support group/class, a lifeskills course, a drawing class, yoga, church group....what ever it is that interests you. (look in the news paper and on bulitin boards and on phamlets for programs)

This is less pressure, (not like a job) and you will gradualy start feeling like you are more 'part of the world' again. I was there once. I was a single parent and was on social assistance after my divorce. I was honest with my social worker and she put me in a combo lifeskills/ pre employment program. It really helped me regain my confidence.

Once you feel like you have gained more of an 'identity' of yourself again you will feel better. Start small and work your way up...even consider a small 'part time' job when you feel up to it.
