I know a person who is claiming that there parents are forcing them to join the army. I was under the impression that they can't force you, you volunteer for it.

Is this true?

You can't be forced to join the military in the United States by anyone. Not even a judge can do that, because as soon as the military gets wind of the coercion, you're on the next bus home.

I think he's got his wires crossed. They may have a thought that if he joins the Army that they will make a man out of him and that could well be happen if he does. But no they can't force you. They can throw him out of their house if he's a pain in the rump side though. Sounds as if someone is feeding you a line of bull just to make you feel sorry for them. Don't believe everything you hear.

No, your parents cannot force you to join any branch of the military. This is the USA and you are free to do as you wish. Parents can recommend, influence, guide, direct, or encourage you to join the military, but they cannot force you to join. Freedom of choice rules!

No one can force your friend to join the Army or any other military branch. We have an all voluntary military in this country.

no one can force you to join the army, except the government. I don't think that person literally meant "forcing", his parents probably "pressured" him into it.

he's weak, looking for attention. Ask yourself can your parents force you to attend/join college or the circus? they can kick you out of the house after your 18. After that its your choice what you want to do with your life.

Your parents can take you to a recruiter and make you listen to their spill, but they cannot make you sign the contract. You have to sign that contract on your own, not under the influence of someone else. Recruiters won't even try to get them to sign if they see this kind of problem.

Your parents can strongly suggest and if you are 17 they can sign permission papers but nobody can make you join the military.
