Is there not a part in the service already set out that he would read? If you want a Bible reading, the one from Corinthians is beautiful, the one about love - that love is patient, love is kind, etc...
If you don't want something biblical, but something philosophical, there are beautiful pieces by Kahlil Gibran.

At a wedding, First Corinthians 13:4-8 is appropriate I think. Talks about Jesus' attributes and character!

Have him go to the library and look for a poem. Alot of those are
short and to the point. Also, if its being held in church....ask
someone in your church for ideas from the bible. They surely can find an appropriate, short reading for your step son.

Good Luck & Congratulations!!!
