How can we eliminate sexual assults in prison?

Prison cells have been associated with rape and it is matter of shame that this is an accepted fact in our society. What can we or the government do to remove this stigma from our society?

There will always be crimes and having a prison is important. But not everyone deserves to be assaulted! A crime could be small, like some college student getting a little too drunk, check bouncing or someone getting involved in a major car accident.

Getting Aids/HIV is a death sentence.

You know, I totally agree. They need to keep that s*it under control, because it's disgusting and wrong! I don't care WHO is in jail/prison for WHAT. No one should be allowed to sexually assault anyone. I really wish that the guards in the prison would keep that under control or something. Whatever would have to be done to prevent it, I think it should be done.

Why would you want that to stop? Prison should be an unpleasant place. People should not want to go there. People should not want to go back to prison. Most model citizens do not end up in prison cells in the first place. It shouldn't be a place to plan your next move.
The thought of being in a cell at all is a deterrent to most people; if you came out and thought "It wasn't so bad...", would this be any incentive to straighten yourself out?
A lot of felons have a tough time finding honest work - many private employers would pass on someone with a record. Perhaps prevention is the key here. If there are no criminals, there would be no need for prison rapes.
At - risk youth should be made aware of the consequences of violating the law for their own gain or just for kicks while in a group of "friends". I'm sure your buddies will be mighty impressed that you can defend your dessert in the prison cafeteria while they are out having fun with your girlfriend.
While there may be some lucrative enterprises where a person could make some serious money and acquire a good deal of status, who is really looking up to you?
