I have a kitten and it is less than 6 months old. It is always attacking my daughter either biting her or scratching her, to the point where she is bleeding. Sometimes it attacks my son but never attacks me. My daughter is 5 and my son is 6. How do I stop it from attacking? Or do I have to get rid of the cat?

She is very loving to the kitten. She wont even smack it when it scratches or bites her.

Well there's your mistake. An 18 month child and a kitten are a HORRIBLE mix. Babies are not intelligent enough to know when they're hurting a kitten and can easily injure or even kill one. I'm sure these attacks aren't unprovoked. Your baby's probably been pulling its tail or handling it roughly. The best thing for this kitten would be for you to surrender it to a no-kill shelter so someone without babies can adopt it. Did you adopt it from a shelter? If so I find it odd that they would adopt out to you. Most don't adopt out kittens to families with children under 5 or 6. If you did get it from a shelter your contract states that you need to return it to them. Not sure how you think you have a "Russian" cross. There's very few Russian Blue breeders and kittens are very rarely sold unaltered, And crossbreeding is never allowed. What you have there is simply a Blue Domestic Shorthair - nothing more. edit: LOL! You think I'm the confused one? Sorry - but that's you. "He had a PURE Russian blue feline who he got from a friend as a kitten" That's complete BS. Breeders of pedigreed cats only sell unaltered females to those that have first shown an altered cat of that breed for awhile and proven to them they want to breed cats for the right reasons - for the love of and to better the breed. Did your grandfather get papers for this kitten? Didn't think so. And so what if the kitten was a gift? It was a gift that should have been REFUSED. Now do the right thing before this child ends up killing your kitten or your kitten catches the kid its eye while trying to defend itself.

Maybe the kitten just isnt very comfurtable around your children yet. Having a new pet means you need to give it time to get to know everything. Maybe you should have your kids stay away from the kitten for a little while and when ever it comes around anyone and you think it might attack then a simple smack on the bottom will teach it not to do those sort of things. My family has over 30 cats and most of them being kittens and me and my mom had to do the same thing to all of them. If you punish your pet then they learn very fast.

I would go with the spray bottle idea that someone else posted. Maybe get some toys for the cat so it knows that it is supposed to attack toys, not people. Also make sure kitty has a scratching post. If this does not work, you may have to adopt the little kitten out to another loving family. Good luck :).

I think your kitten is looking for someone to play with. Since your children are the smallest in the house she chooses to play with them. Maybe you should get another kitten so she can play like a kitten with something of her own species.

Cats fine tune their natural hunting skills through play fighting and play hunting. It sounds as if your kitten cannot find anything better to hunt than your daughter.

I think either you get your kitten a playmate or possibly give her to someone that has other cats. Maybe she is not the right cat for your family. She needs another cat to "put her in line".

It sounds like your cat is jealous and/or protective. I have 2 Siamese, and they are both very weird when it comes to anyone who doesn't live in my home. I had to have them both declawed on all 4 feet because they attacked anyone that came to my house. By doing this, my problem was solved. Now they growl & hiss, but no longer try to attack. The good news is they are great for protection! I would recommend speaking to your vet. He can recommend a trainer, or discuss other possible alternitives. Good Luck!

the cat does not like little kids, not unheard of. Cats have sensitive ears and kids are very loud so cats can get irritated by that. Also cats don't bide well when they get hurt, little kids are famous for hurting cats. I had a cat hate me for a totally different reason though. I had my first period while she was in the house, so she then tried to establish dominance over me, constantly. The cat may want more attention from you then the kids, maybe. IDK i've never really been through a situation like this.

I had a cat very similar to this. It left scars on my daughter. I didn't keep the cat long! It bit her one time so bad that she bled and got an infection...the cat was quarantined for 10 days and euthanized. Do play around with it. The best thing to do is get rid of the cat. I kind of wonder where you got the cat..sounds somewhat feral.

Kitties play rough. Remember that cat skin is a lot thicker than human skin, so cats don't realize that they are hurting. My cat was playing with me and attacked my ankle. the blood poured out of the little puncture wound. I didn't get mad. I just cleaned the wound and promised myself never to turn my back on the little guy when he is in play mode

If it's only 6 mos. old, then it would be better for u to give it to a shelter that may be able to help it or find it a home w/out kids. Definitely don't keep an animal that is hurting ur kids!!
