I'm planning on becoming a police officer and I wanted to know if any of you could give me some workout schedules *with detail*. I go to a gym - so I'd be running and I want to lift weights and stuff like that - I do my crunches at home. Anyways, if you know anything please let me know. I was thinking about asking a professional trainer but I don't want to pay for it.

I workout at least six days a week - and I run for about 35-40 minutes a day, I use the stair master for 10 minutes, and I do some machine lifting but I need some ideas.

It sounds like you've got a good workout program already. I would incorporate stretching into your training to prevent injury and it is a part of the cooper standards (sit and reach). Try working some circuit training into your routine. Push-ups followed by body squats then pull-ups, things like that. Go from one exercise to the next with no rest. Do that as many times as you can. Set a number of reps that won't be to failure, but will cause you to work. Push-ups are a must because you will probably do lots of them in the academy and need to be used to them. Spend your money on good quality foods or a martial arts class. Both will help better then a trainer. Also look around your gym, there will be cops there working out usually. Good luck! One last thing, if you use weights, mix in free weights and not just machines. Free weights work the stabilizer muscles also which gives you a better return for your effort.

Husband is a Lt. and I know it varies based on where you are planning to join. It sounds like you will probably pass the physical as it stands right now. You need a good cardio (probably more than 10 minutes on the StairMaster--unless your really getting your heart rate up for your run)
Pull ups for the upper body strength as well. I know here in Oregon there was a flexibility component as well, but It does sound like you're already on the right track. I would contact your academy and see what physical tests they run on attendees

The Cooper Institute of Aerobics Fitness should give you some ideas. Here in NC, most law enforcement follow their guidelines.
