Most dogs, especially big dogs, need a lot of exercise. What happens when dog is not properly exercised...? It is like a child who had a lot of caffine. They run around in the space they have. This means if you do not give a big dog enough exercise you have a big dog running around a small apartment/house. This can be a handful (trust me, I have a boxer mix at 65+ lbs in a towhouse and he will do laps up and down the stairs if he gets bored/wound up). Also, if you live in the city, you probably do not have a yard. This means you will always have to pick up after your dog. Do you have any idea how much a big dog poops when it goes? You may want a smaller dog for this reason alone. Otherwise I would try a good lab or hound. They are going to be the less energetic of the larger breeds.

Check out www.petfinder.com Im sure your match is there.

All dogs need exercize to stay healthy and live long. Is there a dog park around or an enclosed area you can play fetch with your dog? Its a great way for them to get exercize and you dont have to walk them around.

Greyhounds are GREAT dogs and they are couch potatos. You can rescue old racers that will be put down when their careers are over. However, these dogs have never been in homes so you have to be patient and show them how to use stairs and things they are unfamiliar with. They do need to run so you will need somewhere to run them. It MUST be enclosed because these dogs are fast and they are not taught to return when called. Many Greys are lost this way. They have very thin skin so they can not live in the cold for long if they are lost. Do your research if you get this breed.

I wouldnt focus on the size of the dog, I would focus on the fit to your lifestyle. You can easily exercize a small dog right in your home by playing ball with it. Its a lot harder to do that with a bigger dog. Dachshunds are great little dogs. They dont shed much, dont need too much exercize and love to cuddle.

Research the breeds first, they all have their pros and cons. Petfinder.com is great because there are so many dogs out there, you are bound to find a new friend! Good luck!

They all need exercise, but an older dog would need less than a puppy. Do you have a fenced in yard where the dog could go out to run around?

I live in a city and have a fenced yard, but we still take walks up and down my block. My dog is friendly and loves to be petted, and all the little kids come out and pet her. One way to meet the neighbors!

They also have dog parks here that are enclosed (fenced in) fields where dogs can run off leash.

All dogs need to exercise. If you live in the city why would you want a big dog. I can't think of any large dogs that would want to lay around except old ones.

Golden retrievers are the most amazing dogs in the world, but they need a lot of exercise. Mine runs constantly and requires a fairly large backyard and swims often too. Maybe an older dog would be better for you if you don't wish for it to exercise a lot. St. Bernards are pretty dang adorable too.

Having a puppy is like having a little one. It is a lifestyles lengthy dedication. You sound as though you may also must reconsider this entire factor. You get a puppy considering the fact that it's what you desire now not too please your peers and their ideals. You get a puppy to have a lifestyles lengthy buddy who's going to rely on you FOREVER to feed it, refuge it, take it to the general practitioner while it's in poor health or harm and find it irresistible it doesn't matter what it does or what anyone else thinks approximately it. All puppies don't seem to be the equal and also you are not able to say if a puppy will probably be comfortably housebroken. Each puppy has its possess character and wherein one could also be handy to educate an extra of the equal breed is probably not. Pets don't seem to be disposable and must now not be gotten on a whim.

All large breeds need exercise, especially if they live in a small house. Bernese Mountain Dog, Briard and Irish Wolfhound are three to look into. They may not need as much as some other breeds such as Border Collie and German Shepherd.

I'd say boxers. But they are medium sized some can be pretty big though (like mine) They do need exercise but not alot. You can play with them in your yard or even in the house treadmils work too. I've had two boxers and both we're very loving they are more people dogs than they like other dogs.
