ok, can i have people answer who actually know what they are talking about here and not just those who feel the need to express their opinion on the matter e.g, somebody who actually attends church and knows the ins and outs of gettin married in one.

yes, many people do this because of religious reasons. their religion requires the dual ceremonies or because of mixed religious backgrounds.

Why on earth would you want to? Bit hypocritical to use the church for the pretty surroundings, but shun the religious bit...

No you can't. No vicar is going to let you hold a civil ceremony in their church. You can have a civil ceremony at a registry office and have a blessing in chuch later tho, this is often done if the parties can't be married in church for some reason (such as previous marriages)

You can ask a registrar to conduct the civil ceremony in a church (check with your local council to see if the church you have in mind is of their authorised premises). Or you can have a civil ceremoney at the local registry office and then followed by a blessing in a church by the priest/representative. I guess the only thing that will stop you from having a ceremony in church is that if neither you or your fiance(e) is a christian/catholic. Many congrats in advance!

No - you either get married in church or you have a civil ceremony and then a blessing in church. Or if you want something different you need to ask the vicar of the parish

i think you can have the registrar perform the legalities and the church to do the blessing. i don't think they can both do it because in affect it would be marrying twice...

some cultures have their own wedding ceremony to mark marriage, which are not seen as legal here, therefore they have to have the registrar to perform the legalities. this is done even though the former is considered more binding than the latter.
