It's not just pride, but also vanity, the worship of material goods and anything else that might distract one from serving God.

I don't know what "God's purpose for the Amish" is. Nobody does. In fact, nobody knows what "God's purpose" is for anything until it's too late to tell the rest of us about it.

It's not likely that you'll ever be welcomed as a visitor in an Amish community for a short period, but some Amish do operate businesses in areas surrounding their districts and the best way to approach them would be to speak to merchants. It would be very rude to approach random Amish people going about their business. They don't generally like to interact with the "English" community when it's not necessary.

And the person that described the Amish as "non-conformists" was only half-correct. In terms of larger society, they are definitely non-conformists, but within their own communities, rigid conformity is an enforceable demand with dire consequences when it is not strictly adhered.

Amish are born into it. You may want to visit them and see but they are the most forgiving and living by God's laws then anyone I know of. I am sure they would accept you. If Jesus would they will--- As for pride, I would say pride is not a good word for Amish. How about Amish are true to God.

They live off the grid (power grid) and accept technology, but slowly and with much deliberation. Meaning they will accept some forms of technology, but not all if they can do without it. There are a few websites run by friends of the Amish that explain their beliefs. They are born into their society, and you can be indoctrinated in only it does not happen often.

I have always been fascinated by the Amish/ Mennonites/Anabaptists....

Their big thing is forgiveness and non-conformity.

They even went to the funeral of the shooter in the amish school shootings.

Look them up on Amishpeople.com...they are fascinating!!!

I have heard of this. Not sure if it's true or not. You have to respect those people though. It can't be easy for them in this world. Got to respect that.
