Say you are unemployed and you benefits are about to expire. You want to work, but in your town the manufacturing economy has gone to China. Do you think you could stand on a corner with a bunch of illegals and get hired? Are there any Illegals here that yould welcome a gringo to work with them? Are there any employers of illegals here that would pick up an American? It would be just like paying someone under the table. What is the difference between paying an American under the table and paying an Illegal the same thing. It is illegal no matter how you look at it. For all of you who are smart, you could collect your unemployment and welfare and go work with the illegals. On paper you would still be poor and you wouldn't have to pay taxes on your earnings with your illegal job. You could clean up! Hey, I just gave myself an idea. Yo Hablo Espanol. Hmmmm.

I don't think you could unless you are hispanic, and then sometimes people just assume you must be illegal. If someone is looking around a day labor site, they are not looking for a quality long term employee. They are looking for someone to exploit. They may be too afraid to heap on the abuse that gets bestowed upon some illegals on someone they assume to be American. I don't think illegals would look well on it either, it might look suspicious to them.

I'd go door to door with lawn equipment, people come to my house occasionally offering to do my lawn for 40 a week and four hours each time. If you work an eight hour day and 10 an hour, that's $80, tax free. If you work six days a week, that's $480 a week. Or $1920 a month. There are quite a few Americans making that or less. Hardly "below their standards" as some would have you think.

I know a guy that moved from the Midwest to California with nothing. He was the whitest white boy you’ve ever seen....he spoke not one word of Spanish. To get himself on his feet, he went to one of the day laborer pick-up sites and stood with all of the day laborers. He was usually one of the first to get picked up. He was paid the same wage as the Spanish speaking guys, and he was valued by the day laborer employers because he spoke English. So yes, us “gringos” can be day laborers, and pay no taxes on the money made, just like the illegal day laborers.

No. I would consider a Daddy Daycare type of business but only if it were licensed. I have had problems with 3 of the 4 people I picked from craigslist that weren't licensed.

You certainly could try that. I think you will find that the wage you would make under the table is well below what you would consider livable. Keep in mind to that not only are you not paying taxes, but you also are not getting health insurance.

Don't pretend that plenty of Americans don't do what you recommend. Some estimates put the "shadow" economy at a multi-billion dollar industry, much of it performed by Americans. The drug trade is still dominated by legal American citizens.

Law enforcement officials understand that Mexicans looking for work are far less threatening to our society than other illegal activities. I suggest you speak with them to understand.

Well it might be a problem for you but many young people in my town do work at day labor. The farmers here are hurting already because they are afraid to hire migrants in case they are illegal.

It would be nice, but they won't hire citizens to do that. People like to call us lazy for not doing jobs that we aren't allowed to do. And they wonder why we question their intelligence. One more thing is that the illegals would likely react badly if we started taking 'their' jobs.

Absolutely. And if they won't let you apply or something, and you find out they've got illegals as employees, pick up the phone and make that call...

Isn't that what temp. services do? Maybe you should go stand there and see if you are chosen, it would be a valid experiment.
