Um, I don't see in any of your quoted verses (or anywhere else in the Quran, and I have a copy right here) where it mentions the expansion of the univserse. "Vast extent" and "portents on the horizons" don't mean expansion of the universe. To a nomad whose entire world is a couple hundred square miles, "vast extent" means beyond what he can see from a hilltop.

If you're really so intent on interpreting your book with regard to science, I'd be happy to point out the 40 or 50 places where it gets scientific topics completely wrong -- but I wouldn't go there if I were you. Hey, don't feel bad, the bible has at least 90 such mistakes -- Muhammad obviously drew on the emerging Arab science of the time to correct a few of the more egregious ones in the bible, but he still got a lot wrong :)

Interesting..... Ya know, in reading your posting, I dont see anywhere where the word UNIVERSE or CONSTANT EXPANSION is written. All I do see is someone claiming to have built heaven and who "make the vast extent." Your supposition that this means that the universe is constantly expanding is nothing more than yet ANOTHER INTERPRETATION of what it says...

To me, the only thing that passage says is that someone built heaven with "might", and it is the same person who made the "vast extent" - which can simply be another word for Heaven being REALLY BIG. It doesnt say that it is "we that make the VAST KEEP EXTENDING."

So youve (once again) proved not a thing...

In this verse 51:47
With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of pace

The fact that the universe is vast is prosaic and obvious. There is no mention of expanding universe in this verse. Any illiterate man can look at the sky and see it is vast. To the ancient people even the Earth looked vast. To us it looks very small.

In 41:53
Soon will We show them our Signs in the (furthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things?
I dont think any word of this verse is talking about the expanding universe. So what are u talking about?

No. Not even close. Where does it say the universe is expanding? You've come up with a couple of garbled phrases that could mean anything. It is obvious to the most ignorant camel herder that space is big.

What verse in the Quran says the Universe is expanding?

2006-10-23 09:39:23 · answer #6 · answered by a sock 3 · 0 0

that isa very ambiguous interpretation kind of like the ones that you say prophesizes airplanes andcars. None of them actually say what you are claiming. and precisely where does it say the universe is expanding? did you forget to put some thing in, because its not there? isn't that kind of like saying that Jesus was muslim because portraits of Mary all have her wearing a head covering?

good point!!
Greeks made theories.. n most of them were proved wrong later on.. for eg .. they believed that life originated from non living things.. but LOUIS PASTEUR of France proved that WRONG..
most of Aristotles theories hav been proved to be wrong..
the Greeks just made theories without any proves!!!
n yeah Muhammad (pbuh) lived in Arab n how did he get to know soo much abt the seas n the oceans. n the skies n stars/.. embryology etc.. huh... this is a direct proof that QURAN IS THE WORD OF GOD...

Religion often blinds peoples rationale with undirected hope.

Thus, they often start to seek confirmation in everything – even if there is none.
