In your opinion what were Big George's best five knockouts?
The man had what I call awesome CLUBBING punching power.
My five in no particular order:
1) Cooney - Remember how Cooney's leg was twitching while he was still standing after getting hit by a classic Big George left uppercut before Foreman applied the finishing touch with that clubbing right hand?
2) Smokin' Joe - Joe didn't look like he was smokin' in this fight. Total dominance over a fighter who was considered at that time unbeatable.
3) Ken Norton - Total destruction job on a damn good heavyweight.
Norton's legs looked like spaghetti as he struggled to his corner.
4) Jose "King" Roman - Jose looked like he was the king of the canvas that night.
5) Last but not least the slugfest in Vegas against Ron Lyle. What guts both fighters showed that afternoon in Vegas. I remember this one when I was a kid Cosell saying " a total absence of boxing skill just slugging. The way the public likes it."
I guess I forgot Moorer!

Great question Brent! George really did have that clubbing power and I'm sure his opponents probably felt like they were getting hit with a bat or something when he hit them! As far as pure strength, no fighter was ever stronger than Big George. Here are my top 5:

1. Joe Frazier- George completely detroyed Joe lifting him up off the ground with shots and against a man who beat Ali!
2. Ken Norton- George once again showed his amazing power and strength lifting Norton off his feet and through the ropes.
3. Michael Moorer- George was losing quite handily before landing a short right and putting Moorer on the canvas for the 10 count. This proved he still had power even at his age!
4. Gerry Cooney- Two big heavy hitters in this one so you figured it wouldn't last long. And after that right hand by Big George, it was all over!
5. Jose "King" Roman- George just completely demolished a pretty good fighter displaying that enormous power once more.

Note: I also saw that slugfest between Foreman and Lyle and it's truly one of the most amazing fights ever. Lyle almost had George beat as both men made visits to the canvas with George finally prevailing with his clubbing powerful punches.

1. Frazier
2. Norton
3. Moorer

I must confess of not watching others. But I prefered the Moorer one the best To claim the crown fter nearly 2 decades was stunning. Moorer was coasting to unanimous points win, until he let his guard down. A small short right hand did the trick.

I cannot choose GF's best five. That simple question has me spellbound. I have watched highlight reel after reel of his knockouts and they are spectacular. The thing that always gets me about so many his knockouts are his inside or haymaker knockouts. It looks like he just barely touches his opponents and they just crumble to the canvas. He has such power that he seems to generate from nowhere - it just seems like there is a burst of energy from his fists when they make contact with his opponent. Great question, sorry I'm in a pickle with the best five.
