Why bother? You can buy pumpkin ready to go in a can to make soup or a pie?

First, the only thing you can do with the stringy stuff is give it to the birds and the squirrels, but the flesh part is another story...

Oh yum...steam it or bake it, then mash it and freeze it.

You can make pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin cake.....You can put the cut up pumpkin in a vegetable beef soup....You can make pumpkin custard......Yum.

Don't throw it away....you have to pay to buy canned mashed pumpkin at the store at thanksgiving time.

The seeds can be salted and roasted slightly, or they can be carmelized (glazed with brown sugar and butter). The "meat" of the pumpkin can be boiled (or steamed until soft) and processed to make a mash good for making Real McCoy homemade pumpkin pie. I challenge you to do just that!

As for the stringy slimy stuff, add to your compost pile.

It's no good for anything. Pumpkin pie & pumpkin soup etc is made from the rind part minus the outer skin.

A carving pumpkin is grown just for that. The seeds are great to roast, but if you want to make something with pumpkin, you need to buy a pie pumpkin specifically. :)
