I agree, and I remember when the Berlin came crashing down I was excited for democracy all over the world. I felt like it was the most symbolic gesture of democracy conquering all. Now I feel ashamed of a wall that passed in theory but not with money to back it up. Hopefully we'll figure out a wall will not solve anything, especially when I assume it will just be more work for undocumented workers to build it!!!

The Berlin Wall divided a city. People in East Berlin were kept captive. The wall was keeping people imprisoned, it was not meant to keep invaders out of the country. This "border fence" will mark the border between two nations. There will still be checkpoints where people will be allowed to travel through to the other country...not to mention all the gaps that will be left open since the fence is so short and the border is so long.

The Berlin wall was intended to imprison the people of East Germany (to keep people in). They didn't really have a problem with people wanting to sneak into the country.

The Border fence is intended to keep people from entering the U.S. illegally (to keep people out). This includes terrorists and future versions of all the drug dealers and child molesters they've been catching recently.

Yeah, because the whole "Berlin Wall" thing went so well, we ought to repeat it.... I hope you didn't miss the sarcasm in my tone. I tried to make it pretty obvious. The Soviets built the wall. The Germans opposed it, because they didn't want their country divided. Plus many had families living in what became East Germany. If it was built with German money, which I highly doubt, then it was money that the Soviets stole from the German people (as in, the treasury) after Germany fell. That's not the same thing as the Germans building it, okay?

The Berlin Wall was built to keep people in East Berlin.

Another difference is that the Berlin Wall was very effective but the Mexican fence will have no effect.

The difference is the Berlin Wall was to keep people in. The border fence is to keep people out. It's a dumb idea since it will cost a fortune, result in many deaths of poor, desperate immigrants seeking a better life and won't work since the poor will find another way in.

Every time I hear people talk about a border fence I think about the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China. It's a BAD idea - then, and NOW!!! The Neo-Cons would just pay Mexicans to build it anyway.

If the Mexicans are angry, stop letting them pass over our borders. The wall is designed to keep ILLEGAL mexicans out. You know, the people who pass without documents. The Berlin Wall kept perfectly legal people out. Mexico would have to build a wall as well to keep us out. Therein lies the difference. If you have a problem, go backk

Berlin, well that was because of one nation after world war II, remaining Nazi wanting to preserve their way of life. You have to understand, America and Mexico, two different places. There is not war, and IF they want to come over they just need to apply. My cousin is doing that. My grandparents came over to fight in the War. Mexico didn't want to get involved but my grandfather did. It is all about legalities. The border fence is just like the once with Canada and America, but we are not breaking any laws to visit. It is just to hard for people to file paper work. Heck, do not be foolish to make that kind of comparison.

Our border fence is not being made to divide a country. Mexico is not part of this country and most of us here are opposed to open borders. We are not using this fence to separate families, as it is just part of the solution to this illegal immigration problem. We are more than happy to help these people reunite in Mexico. If they would like to live here there are legal ways of doing so. People need to wait their turn, as we can't take all who want to come at one time.
