and yet deny he was the son of God and that he rose from the dead. Jesus said he was going to be raised from the dead so if he did not do what he said he would be a liar and not a great prophet. The muslim's can't deny this.

It is truly amazing how people can deny the Gospels as original Truth when there is so MUCH corroboration for the ancient manuscripts. They are much more reliable than Caesar's missive about the Gallic Wars, for instance, and yet they WILL not believe the truth. They would rather believe the LIE that the Gospels were modified over the centuries, even though there is NO evidence for this.

Meanwhile, there IS evidence that the Quran was indeed altered early on, in several ways.

Hi Wisdom,

I am Rational Spirituality.

How can you know Christ meant it literally. What if he was talking about rising from the dead in the Soul sense? He certainly rose from the dead as a Soul.

And he was a great prophet, and he was the son of God so far that he was created by God and destined for Divinity. Again not a literal interpretation, in my opinion.

If we had to be literal, we would then have to ask how could God procreate, literally, etc, etc.

I believe that people who fervently argue about many details contained in religious doctrines argue unnecessarily. It is a matter of interpretation. And in my opinion, a matter of intelligence.

As Wisdom, I am sure you will easily understand this.

Well that is the cunning thing about Islam and its views concerning Christianity. It is willing to accept certain propositions as fact, such as Jesus being born of a virgin, preaching the Gospel, and performing great miracles. However, it denies other elements of Jesus’ narrative, such as his divinity and his death and resurrection. Essentially Muhammad created a religion that incorporates Jesus just enough to where he could have a religion that is amicable to Christianity, but he denies the divine personage of Jesus and his atoning act so as not to violate two fundamental principles in Islam – number one the pure ones of God which cannot be convoluted by the trinity, and number two the fact that God would never allow one of his prophets to suffer and die.

I have surmised for a long time that Islam’s view of Jesus and his very inclusion into the Qu’ranic (Koranic) text had more to do with a savvy political ploy to gain as many converts as possible by using Jesus as a relatable figure, than a true respect for Jesus himself. The odd thing is that Islam asserts that the Bible is a divinely inspired book, but that it was corrupt. Of course some propositions from the Bible are taken to be fact by Islamic apologists and others are taken to be interpolation and blatant distortion of history. From my own encounter with defenders of Islam, what they take to be authentic Biblical passages, and what they deem to be distortions, all depends if the passage that is cited comports with the Qu’ran and Islamic teaching. Hence, passages are designated as veridical arbitrarily if they conform to Islam’s preconceived notions. Quite frankly their arguments are hardly sound.

Why, pray tell, can the Muslims not deny this? You Christains deny many many things, such as the FACT that you are evolved from a common ancestor to the ape... You deny that your Bible hasnt been polluted by the hands of generations of men reworking and rewriting it tremendously.... Your current Bible doesnt read one iota near what the original Bible manuscripts reads.... So they can deny anything they like.

And lets face facts now - no one ever in the history of the world has ever returned from the dead. NO ONE. So, maybe the muslims are onto something here....

Also Jesus was transfigured on the mount of transfiguration and God His Father spoke to the apostles.

Matthew 17
1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

4Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

5While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
