The ambiguity of the idea of god, in that certain religions use the idea that, since one cannot prove the existence or non-existence of god, then a group's belif or faith in god, more or less defines that particular religion. For every "proof" of god, one can cite evidence against that idea. Most religions rely on heavenly scripture, that just happened to be written by the hands of men....nobody sees any contradiction here? Personally, if believing in an invisible, omnipotent being who knows and sees all, even ideas and thoughts, helps someone to be less of a jerk, then by all means, enjoy your faith. However, as religion has caused the most death and destruction humanity has ever seen, then it is far from harmless belief or faith. To me, the scariest people on earth are those who blindly believe in their religion and have a literal sense of their chosen scriptures. Most religions share in the general idea that god is loving, forgiving, vengeful and ALL POWEFUL. For a lot of freethinkers, this is the biggest cop-out: All is as it should be, for the universe is unveiling exactly as the Lord wants it to. This is the mantra of the weak minded. When a tornado destroys an orphanage, killing kids and nuns; when a flood destroys communitites; when a war ravages a region, we hear: it's all a part of god's plan. No offense, but I am sure god could plan population control a lil' better....lets say by killing off child molesters, war mongers, rapists and the such, instead of innocents. Unfortunately, I believe god to be a tool to keep the masses distracted, fearful and ignorant.

Besides the overwhelming documentary evidence, all of the Apostles who knew Jesus best, died violent deaths because of their message (except for John).

They all had the opportunity to recant, knowing that they would be spared, and allowed to live. No one goes to their death willingly for a lie that they know to be a lie. And yet each one died, knowing that a better future awaited them.

During the Watergate scandal of the '70s, the conspirators could not keep their lie together for two weeks. None of them was threatened with death. The worse thing that could have happened was prison. And these guys began ratting each other out at the first sign of trouble. Not so with the Apostles.

If the resurrection, and Jesus' promises were a lie, the Apostles would have chosen to live for a while longer. Many had families to think about.

To me, that is enough. They died for the Truth. He is risen! He's coming back to judge the living and the dead. I'd better be ready.

I 'm merely going to state some issues approximately Christianity. that may no longer an attempt to transform every physique. i'm an historian, i'm no longer a believer, yet i might desire to admit as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of background. Jesus Christ is honestly the main dominant determine in all background. --H.G. Wells As a baby I gained practise the two interior the Bible and interior the Talmud. i'm a Jew, yet i'm enthralled by way of the luminous determine of the Nazarene....no you are able to truly study the Gospels without feeling the surely presence of Jesus. His character pulsates in each word. No delusion is crammed with such life. --Albert Einstein As you have gotten guessed neither of the above have been Christians yet they renowned the life of the historic Jesus Christ. Historians basically debate despite the fact that if or no longer Christ grew to become into divine. Writings by way of Tacitus point out Christians and Christ to boot as writings by way of Josephus. there is not any doubt a Jesus Christ existed. he's recognized as a prophet in 3 of the Abrahamic faiths which contains Islam. I additionally locate the instructions of Christianity to be forward of their time. It speaks of a around earth long till now each individual ever stricken to make certain the certainty. Isaiah 40:22 (around) activity 26:7 around. the folk of the bible did no longer use God to describe each thing. case in point The greek Goddess Echo grew to become into of course made to describe a similar phenomenon however the folk of the bible have been conscious that the failings that occured in nature Rain, snow, wind , earthquakes weren't God himself appearing yet nature adhering to the regulations he set. the instructions of Christ are relatively unique. With Odin you get to Vallhalla in case you kill adequate of your enemies. Christ says to love your enemies. interior the OT God asked for animal sacrifices with one exception or maybe then took an animal extremely. The hawaiian volcano goddess mandatory a human virgin to be appeased The Aztec God mandatory the blood of people. The Christian faith is unapologetic approximately human nature It recognizes that there are not this variety of issues as "stable people." those are basically a number of the failings i stumble on unique.

I differ from most critics of Christianity in that I actually studied it-I know all the flaws, all the doubts that Christians themselves express about their faith. It's not a belief system for people who think too deeply-its inconsistencies, contradictions and absurdities are such that I would never go near it in a million years. I am totally opposed to it.

Undecided faith

On the one hand..theres got to be something higher..God or something...how else did we get here?

then on the other hand....the lack of evidence

but then again the lack of evidence gives those that do believe something to hold on too...they actually have FAITH, and at least they TRY....and then again.....the list goes on and on...i love it either way..i give Christians more credit for believing in something that theres lil left of...and the non Christians i give some credit to for trying to use logic....i guess we'll see in the end..

There really isn't an argument: there simply is no evidence to support any God. Beyond that, even if one assumes a God, there is no evidence to indicate the Christian one.

Ummm... Chapelite (below)
There were Nazis who went to their deaths refusing to repudiate Hitler, including a general executed at the Nuremberg trials who had full knowledge of the Holocaust. Does this mean that Hitler was the Germanic Messiah? There were members of a sect who killed themselves when a meteor approached the Earth. There are martyrs of every kind and description... are they ALL right?

I suppose I call myself "christian" because I believe in God and follow him and what not, but that's really just a title. The only difference between me and a "non-christian" is Jesus, and that's really what it's all about. Why do I choose Him? I've seen that He is real, and really works in my life as well as others. It's just as real to me as watching the waves on the beach, or a bird in the sky. No doubt about it.

The best argument for being a christian is that Jesus loves you, and unless you love Jesus back, he will burn your sorry *** in hell for all eternity. Enough Said!

The best answer I think is to consider Pascal's theory . Here are your options.

1. You believe in God, and he doesn't exist - gain nothing, lose nothing
2. You' don't believe in God and he doesn't exist - gain nothing, lsoe nothing
3. You don't believe in God and he exists - gain nothing, lose everything
4. You believe in God and he exists - lose nothing, gain everything

I think logic sides that believing in Him is a risk you should definetely take! Whatever you choose good luck!
