I know that tanning in a tanning bed increases your chance for skin cancer, but are there any good benefits to tanning? I have heard that it is good to tan to help lift your spirits or it has a slimming effect. Any suggestions?

You can effectively elevate your mood and get the vitamin D you need by being in the mild sun for 10 minutes a day. This differs from tanning. Tanning in injuring your skin. I went to tanning beds in my 20s and I have now had 4 basil cell carcenomas carved out of my skin....not fun, nor pretty. Think twice about tanning beds.

Those are psychological. And it's not even true. Probably some idea that salons put out to get business..

Tanning may be good for your self-esteem but this is a personal thing and can't be seen from one session so that is false.
The only way it would be true is that you are "treating yourself" same as any other salon treatment like a pedicure. Once again this is a personal thing and isn't a "real" benefit.

I read that they claim the warmth and relaxation from tanning is beneficial but imo that is wrong as the amount of time spent under a sunbed is not long enough.
Some places also make wild claims that it helps you lose weight, by stimulating your thyroid and increasing metabolism. Those are like I said, only wild claims and not supported.

The slimming effect.. I have never heard of that personally and don't see how it could possibly be true. This again will be personal opinion.(psychological and not a real benefit)

Certain rays can help with acne and skin conditions like psoriasis but these shouldn't be controlled or treated with sun beds and it should always be done under medical supervision. There are also significant adverse affects.
Basically some people try to claim that there the same benefits as there are with sunlight.. but sunbeds are a far more intense form of sunlight and any positives are far outweighed by the negatives, or just don't exist at all.

It helps clear up acne, and can prevent scarring. I knew a girl who was in a car accident, and she had little cuts all over her face from the glass. Her doctor told her to use a tanning bed, and it kept her face from scarring.
Being tan will make you look slimmer, and your teeth whiter...but I guess you have to decide if that's worth aging prematurely and risking skin cancer. I'd rather use a self tanner or actually get a tan from doing things outside.

you are able to go thoroughly bare. Lotion is everywhere between $20-one hundred looking on how solid it is and how many bronzers it has. the worker on the salon could have the potential to advise how long you need to decide for. they're experienced to correctly known what may be the final factor for you to do. maximum possibly once you tell them it is your first time, they could have you ever go in for 5-6 minutes. It would not sound like an prolonged time, yet while i began tanning i might burn after 7 minutes for the 1st week or so.

The benefits are simple: melanoma, as the one Dr remove from my forearm last year; now I schedule to remove another one that shows up in my back.
God only knows where will be the next one.
I used to say "that does not happen to me" I take care of myself,.. yah! I see the results and I regret no to listen to people,
Yah! I was the macho, the invencible. ...

Tanning can boost your self confidence, make you appear slimmer, make your teeth appear whiter and many other physical changes.

The light also provides Vitamin D which is also good for you.

If you have any skin conditions such as echzyma sometimes it will clear it up.

I am pro-tanning. :)
