Barks when crated in bedroom, not crated in bedroom, crated in another room, not crated in another room, only at night... Like he is not sleepy & wants us up with him! He finally fell asleep last nite @ 4am & I had to get up for work @ 5... Any suggestions?

To get the pup to sleep well at night, he'll need lots of exercise (playing, walking, running) during the day. If he's cooped up and sleeps all day, he'll be awake all night wanting attention.

To get him to settle into his crate at night, you need to crate him in another room... and LEAVE HIM THERE. Don't go to him when he tantrums and let him out. When you do that, you're telling him that if he screams long enough and loud enough he'll get what he wants.

Put him in his crate, tell him he's a good boy, close the door and go to bed. If he fusses, go to the door only once or twice, open it (but don't go to him), and tell him calmly and firmly "no noise" or "be quiet" (don't yell at him, don't bang on his crate, don't hit him, and don't give in to his tantrum). After you've told him to be quiet, go back to bed and IGNORE him. He'll pitch a fit for a night or so, but if you stick to your guns and not give in to his noise, he'll learn quickly that tantruming gets him nothing, and he'll settle down and go to sleep.

ignore him when he barks. don't give in.
before hes put in his crate for the night make sure hes tired,
exercise him, play with him, then take him outside to do his business, and put a kong toy stuffed with goodies in with him
or a bone, something to keep him occupied. do not give into
him if he wines, wimpers, or barks. he'll get the message that barking isn't getting him any where. use ear plugs if you have to.
turn up a radio. good luck.

you need to tire your puppy out before bedtime. do you walk him before bed? how much exercise is he getting a day? (NOT counting playtime--that doesn't count!) you need to take your puppy on a very energetic, hard working walk for about 30-45 mins. before he eats dinner in the evening. after dinner and he is settled in, PLAY HARD for about an hour. a tired dog is a good dog, so get yourself to work.
