It depends on whether you give birth vaginally or by C-section and if there are any complications after you give birth. I had a C-section and was in the hospital for 4 days.

If you and baby are healthy, Zero!
My only hospital birth was in the middle of the night (12:46 a.m.) so we stayed that night, obviously. I checked out less than 24 hours later, around 9:00 p.m. I think. We could have left much earlier but it took me a while to make up my mind since it was my first.
My second was born in a free-standing birth center. Most moms are allowed to leave about 4 hours after if they want. I was GBS+ so we had to stay at least 6 hours. You aren't allowed to stay more than 12 hours. Again, a middle of the night birth (12:12 a.m.) so we stayed about 10 hours.
My third was born at home. The midwife stayed with us around 2 hours after she was born.
Talk to YOUR caregiver and see what s/he recommends. Also....my births were all unmedicated and uncomplicated, so keep that in mind.

Really, it all comes down to how well your delivery went. If you had a lot of problems, then, you may be in there for awhile.
Usually with a natural birth, it's about 2 days. If you have a c-section, it can be up to five days.......No less than three days.....
I had a c-section, I spent four days in the hospital......

I spent two nights in the hospital when I had my daughter. I had a natural birth with no complications and the delivery went quickly. My daughter had jaundice though and we could not leave until she reached a certain level. Good luck!

I would say average 2-3 days depending on how your doing, c-section usually longer but my sister was able to get out the third day until pian hit her out of no where so she stayed 4 days after her c-section, sometimes on the second day they will give you a option depending on your doctor I had the option to go home the second day but stayed one more cause I was in allot of pain.

Well with a vaginal birth it's usually two nights but if you have a Cesarean it depends on how well your healing in the hospital. my friend was in there for four days with a Cesarean but i'm sure it varies. She had an emergency C-section.

I think 2-3 is "average" for a vaginal delivery. It depends on each situation & your doctor. My daughter was admitted approx 3pm on Thursday, gave birth at 4am on Friday & came home at noon on Saturday.
