I feed her according to her food package's instructions. My vet says she is not underweight and is very healthy. But she whines and cries for food constantly. I do not give in to her begging. She gets treats twice a day in her kong toy in addition to meals. Any suggestions on how to get her to stop begging?

I can only say that I hope the dog is getting a bowl full of food everyday.Dry dog food that is 100%nutritionally complete. You can also add can dog food.Id also have your dog tested for parasites (worms) by taking the dog to the vet.If she has a vet already,,then most likely all you have to do is take a fresh "sample" of feces for testing. That will determine what type of worm the dog has if any & will get medication for that. Droncit is a one time pill that works good.If your dog doesnt have worms,,Id recommend taking her for a cbc (complete blood count) test to determine an illness. It may not be anything serious,,she may just have the munchies,,lol. But,,I would definately test for worms,,some are naked to the human eye. And,,I am pretty sure that is the problem.

You just have to be firm with her. My female dog does the same thing. She is 2 months old and the kennel that I bought her from gave her access to the food 24/7.... So it's been a challenge. But I feed her 2 times a day just like she is supposed to be. She's a little fatty but I'm making it work. So far. Good Luck!

She is begging for attention. Spend more time playing with her and you will see an improvement. Also, dogs are crafty. They know you will feel sorry for them and eventually, 99% of the time, give in aswell. You mustn't give in. Also don't feed her from your plate. I don't have a choice because I have a Great Dane and she is practically on top of my plate like a bulldozer. But if you have a smaller dog, you can make her see that she eats from her bowl and not your plate.

If your vet says she's well-fed and healthy, trust that that's accurate.

IGNORE HER when she begs... And that means everyone in the house has to ignore her when she begs. If you don't give her anything to eat when she tantrums but someone else in the house does, your training is being undermined.

If you stick to your guns and refuse to feed her when she whines, she'll eventually learn that tantrums get her nothing, and she'll evetually stop begging.

Had same problem, vet said weight good, etc. He suggested leaving some in a bowl for her to have whenever she wanted it and it worked! SHe seemed happier all the way around and she didn't go and eat it all up at once either. GOes and gets some a little at a time whenever she likes.

I just look at my pooch and in a stern voice I ask her, are you begging? she usually will weasle away and sit on the side of the sofa until we are done eating, then she will get our leftovers for being a "good girl" and not begging. Now she doesn't even pay attention to us when we eat. It took a bit but if you stick to it she will eventually get the hint.

You need to yell, or be stern and tell her no beg. And keep doing it. As soon as she stops begging praise her. And just repeat until she realizes why you are yelling at her. Just be patient with it and be constant. Say the same thing everytime when praising and yelling.

I've always fed my dogs free choice. There's always dry food available.

Just say no, and mean it. And when the puppy quits whining, praise her for not whining. That works for my dog when he barks for no apparent reason. And he looks kind of proud when I praise him. Who knew?
