A teen was killed in a car crash a few days ago, and the school is devastated. I want to make a memorial poster, and I want to put an inspiring verse that will let everyone know that the kid is in a better place.

Already considered Psalm 23.

As many people have pointed out (both on and off of Y! Answers) it is a public school, so any quote will be fine. Just as long as the quote can comfort the people.

Was the child Christian? I'm all for sharing Bible verses, (believe me), but if he wasn't, perhaps his family may take offence to it.....better check first.

I applaud you in wanting to do this gesture as an outlet for your grief, and as a personal sentiment to your friend.

My condolences...what a tragedy!

It is always devestating to hear of youngsters who die at an early age. Additionally, that child is not suffering at all because he or she is conscious of noting at all. (See Ecclesiastes 9:5) He is in a deep sleep without dreams. He is not in heaven (because only a certain number of spirit-annointed people go there) and he is not in hell (because hell is not a place of torment. In fact, it is just mankind's common grave. Other words associated with Hell is "Sheol or Hades.")

When I lost someone dear to me, the scripture that always comes to mind is John 5:28, 29, which says, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." Also, Acts 24:15 is another scripture, which says, "and I have hope toward God, which hope these [men] themselves also entertain, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."

Just as one goes to sleep at night and wakes up the next day, the dead are currently sleeping peacefully, awaiting a resurrection.

One of the answers posted regarding this question was "if the person goes to church" (then a scripture was posted). What's with that. The Bible is open to everyone. Even non-religious people read the Bible out of curiosity.

Thanks,

How about this one:

2 Timothy 4:6-8 - v 6)For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. v 7)I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. v 8)Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

That may be a little long to write, but I really like verse 7. God Bless.

Jesus said, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3)

Don't worry about offending...just speak the truth in love, like Jesus did! Don't give way to fear. God Bless you for doing a great thing. (Also, an FYI...there no laws prohibiting students from freely practicing or promoting religion, within certain boundaries of course, ...the primary restrictions put in place in recent years is with respect to teacher orchestrated endorsement of religion).

Revelation 21: 3-4

Revelations 7:17 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Revelations 21:4,5 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away...Behold all things are made new.

Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life.

Hope these help. God bless you! If these translations don't work, there are lots of websites that give multiple translations of verses...I'll be praying for you and the school.

You do realize that posting a Bible verse anywhere in a public school (if indeed it is) no matter how well intended it may be, is just opening the door for trouble. You would do better to find an inspirational verse that is not from the Bible, or religious in any way.

Try Job 14:15 ( or did I inter-change it). It says, 'if a man dies, will he live again?'

Or John 5:28, 29. 'Everyone in the grave shall hear my voice and rise up again.

I don't have my Bible w/ me; but you may want to take a look at those texts.

This same thing happened years ago when I was in High School. We had 3 classmate die in an auto crash just before graduation. This is what they used in our yearbook: It may or may not be approprate for your situation. It seem to fit well with the death and graduation happening at the same time.

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Another idea is this:

John 14
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
