I have heard how men lie if they are "caught" cheating, and try to get out of it. But I have never heard of a guy lying saying he "accidentally" cheated, when he really didn't; he just wanted to the girl to walk away. He saw no future in the relationship but was too weak to walk away himself. So he figured if he told her he was with someone else, that she would be furious, and break things off.
How many guys here would do something like that? If not, why? Yes, this is what I was told not long ago, that the guy I dated for 5 yrs "accidentally" spent the night with someone else a few weeks ago. He tried coming clean last night, and told me it was all just a big lie. He just didn't have the heart to end things, and thought it would be easier lying to be about it. Am I being suckered?

I feel he either really did cheat and now is trying to back out of it....OR, he is a big sissy and doesn/t have the narts to be honest.

I keep forgetting crutial ingrediants here. The reason I am even asking for opinions is because he now wants to work things out and go along like normal. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out whether he did or did not cheat...

Most likely he did "accidently" end up with someone else. Having been through this from the wrong side, I have seen the things a guy will do when they have been unfaithful. He may have confessed to you because he felt guilty about it, and maybe even felt he did not deserve you because of it, but I doubt he would have told you something like that just to make you break up with him if there was no truth to it.
Take it from a "dirty ex-mistress". My advice would be to get out of that relationship either way. Cheating and lying are both habitual so this won't be the last.
Good Luck.

Actually, it's quite plausible, if your guy is the type that hates hurting anybody, and also doesn't know how to stand up for himself.

It's kind if twisted, but it's easier for him for you to hate him over a lie than for him to hurt you over the truth.

In any event, this should tell you it's over. Really, how are you being suckered? He wants it over and is trying to find a way to do it without actually breaking it off. So let him go or else he really will cheat on you one day, except you'll never know it.

Some guys do that and lie, just like some girls do. Some girls wil actually make the relationship difficult on purpose to make the guy break up with her because she's to much of a coward to just call it off.

I wouldn't do that because I wouldn't want a girl to do that to me. I think it's fair that everyone gets the closure that deserve.

Yeah, if he is an idiot. You tell a girl you cheated. Then not only will you have a world war 3 fight before the break up, but you will be a dog to her friends, which he is no doubt going to hook up with.

Yeah, I think some people might do that. Lie about cheating to get out of something they didn't want anymore. It's a childish way of doing it, but it happens.

sorry to hear about what happened! but guys will do anything to take the easy way out of things. they just don't know how to handle things when they get tough. if they really don't care they will lie to you and hurt you. they think it makes things easier for you that way you hate them and can just forget about them easier. they think it makes things easier when you are so mad at them for something they didn't even do. if they can't just be honest with you they are not worth being with find someone who is going to love you and want to be with you. i know how it feels trust me.

I wont lie to the person but i would tell them that i dont like them and i like somebody else. If i wouldnt do that i would be cheating and that is just wrong.
