Is that a toxic level (not taken all at once)?

NEW: I've tried to take her to the ER, and she refuses to go. What should I do? She ate a little chicken soup, and says she is just 'tired' (slept 18 hrs. yesterday; 14 hrs. (so far) today. I think she is afraid her doc will find out ( and stop her pain Rx for two artificial hips).

First off, take the dang medicine away from her. She can't be trusted to be an adult and take the correct dosage. Is she doing this because she is seeking attention? Is she in that much pain that she has to take that many pills in a short period of time? Surprised her liver isn't going into shock.

Call her doctor, get her some mental health in addition to the other crap she'll need done because of taking so much pain meds.

Good luck and keep *your* head on straight. She needs a stable person around her.

If she has taken them over the course 3 days like you have said then there really is no problem. I am going to assume that she has been Rx'd Vicoden 5/500 which is 5mg of hydrocodone (Narcotic) and 500mg Acetaminophen (Tylenol) . This medication is a short acting medication which means it lasts anywhere from 3-6 hours so taking 6-7 pills a day is not uncommon to someone in severe pain. The only problem might be the level of tylenol but if she is taking 500mg per pill she is within acceptable levels.
Physicians and the manufacturer state that the maximum safe level of Tylenol per day is 4000mg. There are some exceptions to this such as if you drink alcohol, and you have liver disease.
Despite this it is still a good idea to limit your intake of tylenol as long term use can damage the liver.

If she has chronic pain and with hip problems I would imagine she would it might not be a bad idea to have her speak with a pain managment doctor and to have them RX her a pain medication with out the Tylenol and one that is designed for chronic pain and not short term acute pain.

She is definately taking more than she should. Depending on the mg of the pill it could just make her really sleepy and or make her REALLY SLEEPY and depress her respiratory system to where she isn't breathing on her own and needs to be intubated. I wouldn't continue to allow to take that kind of dose and if she is in that much pain that she feels that the vicoden isn't working and she needs more of it or she is abusing it then you need to take her to the ER, something more could be wrong with her. There has to be a reason why the vicoden was prescribed in the first place, and if she is abusing it or it isn't working than something more could be wrong, especially since you say she has a decrease in appetite, that could be depression or the medicine or something else wrong. Take her to the ER and also let them know that she is taking more than what is prescribed to her so they know that she could potentially have a problem with pain meds.
Good luck!

Yes, I would get her some help right away. It's more than twice the amount she should be taking. Normal dose is 1-2 tablets every 6-8 hours as needed. Even if she took 2 every 6 hours that is only 8 pills a day.

If your fiancee took 20 vicoden in one day then she has a problem. Getting her help would be the best thing you can do. Call an ambulance and make her go. She has a very big problem. If you love her, get her help.

That sounds like an overdose on Vicode, I reccomend take her to the ER before it gets to even more complications. Also tell them to give you a prescription to something that will not result in a supposed addiction to the drug.

I'm surprised she is still alive. Sounds like a potential drug overdose, addiction issue, or suicide attempt. GET TO THE ER NOW! Get her away from those pills, FLUSH them! She needs to detox and get started on her recovery from narcotics.

You better take her.make sure she gets some help for whatever is bothering her.If she is not a drug addict,20 vicodin a day would probably kill her dead.If she is an addict, 20 a day is usually not a toxic dose.
