This might be a stupid question but I have a calico shes gray tan and white. The parts that were dark gray now have white through it..... Other parts of her are turning colors too.. Is that normal?

She is 8 years old if that matters..

I agree with the other posters about her age. My male cat is 9-years-old. He is b&w, but his face is solid black -- just his tummy & paws are white. He has very long white whiskers, though. In the last couple of years, I've noticed some white hairs popping up around his nose & mouth -- near his whiskers. I asked the vet about this, too. The vet said the same as almost everyone here -- it's the age. Just like people, a cat's fur will lose its color when it ages. Dogs do this, too, btw.

I have seen Calico's go a little more grey with age that includes the coloured bits going grey or white starting at the root of the hair. It isn't uncommon. It might also be some "Delude" calico coming out in her which is a more misty grey type of calico.

The introduction of new white fur in a cat of that age is often an indication that the cat is aging, and "going gray" as it were.

Like humans, cats do lose their hair color as they age. This is due to the loss of the pigment that is produced in the root that gives the hair its color. That is the non-molecular biology answer for you.
