I mean, I went to public shools and the dental hygeinist visited every year in elementary school to demonstrate with the big toothbrush and the big teeth every year, gave everyone toothbrush and toothpaste, etc... I mean it's pretty easy. But these guests on Home Delivery and 10 Years Younger and all that ilk, they're only like 25 with 1 half-rotten tooth remaining in the front, a few crows and bridges, and that's it! They look like hillbillies. Is there some kind of hereditary disorder that gives such relatively young people such horrible teeth? Do they eat rock candy (sugar crystals) every meal and do meth?? What's up with that???

Meth-mouth is pretty much well known now that 7-11s have stopped selling cough medicines, and pharmacies keep tabs on who buys how much cough syrup.

I can kinda understand what you are saying but isn't that one of the reasons why they are on that show in the first place... to get a makeover?!

As a dental hygienist, I can tell you that some people are unaware, sometimes, of what it takes to take care of your mouth. Others have poor diets, lack of interest, lack of self worth and do not care. It all depends on the situation

If someone had a nice mouth, they couldn't fix it, now could they? I know a family of people who have good oral health (I'd like to think so) but their teeth aren't brilliant white. They brush but couldn't afford dental work so their mouths are absolutely perfect.

My mom took tetracycline while she was pregnant with me which causes browning of roots in teeth. It also causes discoloration of teeth and deformities of the teeth. I do not look like I have a "meth head" mouth though. My teeth are white (not bright white, but white), but if you look very close, you can see that they are discolored a little bit. You can also see what I call my "gimpy" teeth.... they are smaller than other teeth and kind of ridgey on the outside (where the outside world can see them).

Anyhow, yeah, they may have meth-head mouths, but it's probably not from meth.

You know, some people don't think about their dental health until it's too late. Or they are afraid to go to the dentist. Or they had parents that gave them soda/candy/sweets until their baby teeth rotted out. I agree that they are really terrible looking and I would say it was mostly from neglect. But, hey it makes a great impact on TV, doesn't it? OH....when I was a kid, my dentist use to hand out candy after a visit...go figure! LOL
