Declaw the cat or take it to a shelter, where it will experience stress, illness, and possible euthanasia?

Declaw the cat!! Is this something you really even have to ask? You would be willing to give up your furry little companiion instead of just having declawed? Sure, it will be in some pain for a while afterwards but better than taking the chance of it never finding a loving home again!

All 3 of mine are declawed. Our household is much more harmonious, as I'm not yelling at them constantly to stop scratching up my furniture and door jambs. We had to replace most of the door jambs in our old house before selling it. When we moved into our new house, I had the oldest cat declawed first, thinking that since he was the one that taught the others, maybe they would stop. The behavior was already learned, though, so the other two were declawed as well. Their little paws look exactly the same -- no missing ends of toes or any other wives tale. The only difference is that when you push on their pads, no claws pop out. They even try to sharpen their missing claws on things. So, if it were really the torture that some people claim it is for a cat, why are they completely pain free in very little time to the point of trying to sharpen the missing claws?

I say go for the declawing! Everyone will be happier for it!

Oh, this is ONLY if the cat will ALWAYS be an inside cat!!!

Have you looked into Soft Paws? they are little caps that cover the nail, are pain-free, cheap, easy to apply, let the cat extend and retract its nails while not harming any furniture, or the musculature of the cat. go to softpaws.com...
But if you feel you don't want your beloved cat anymore, post it in your local classifieds, on craiglist.com, and call all the no-kill shelters to see if they will help you find a new home for him/her...if you take it to the pound, it will have a high risk of extreme stress, loneliness, possible contraction of respiratory infections, and eventual euthanasia being less adoptable that all the pretty kittens most people look for!

read this: http://declaw.lisaviolet.com/declawvettch.html
here's a web site with more ideas to train him
http://cats.about.com/od/declawing/

and if this still doesn't work and you have to give him up try a local animal rescue. they foster cats in people's homes and they never euthanize an animal becasue they can't find a home right away.

declaw. my cat still goes outside, beats up the neighborhood enemy cats, and if truly truly angry, can draw blood. ask your vet about only declawing the front paws.

Declaw it !! The pain is inconsequential compared to euthanizing.
