Hey..Im a Freshman, I have a 3.42 GPA and are in advanced classes (Sophmore and Junior classes). I want to go Rotary Winged Pilot (Warrant Officer) but Iv heard its pretty competitive. What can I do to help my chances into getting in out of High School. I would go to a 2 year school after High School if it would really help THAT MUCH, but I really dont want to. So besides getting a full blown Private Pilots Certificate, what can I do to help my chances of getting in?

So...

-How hard/competitive is it to get in?
-Is the 52 Weeks training like AIT where you wont be able to see your family at all?(even if married)
-Would a 2 year Degree really help that much?
-And would getting Flight Ground Schooling or 15-20 hours on a Student Flight Liscense help any/alot too?

--Thanks alot

Do you have what it takes to become a Warrant Officer?
Applicants for the Warrant Officer Candidate School/Warrant Officer Flight Training program must:

Have a high school diploma.
Be at least 18 years of age at the time of Regular Army enlistment and not have passed your 33rd birthday when the board convenes. High school seniors may also apply. If you are 33-34 years of age, you may request a waiver.
Be a citizen of the United States.
Score 90 or higher on the revised Flight Aptitude Selection Test (FAST). FAST test results are valid indefinitely as long as verifiable official records exist. No waivers are available for failure to meet the minimum FAST score.
Earn a minimum of 110 General Technical (GT) score on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) (non-waivable as well). The GT score is one component of the ASVAB results.
Meet the Active Duty Army's screening height and weight standards.
Take a complete physical exam at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and meet entry medical fitness standards as determined by military medical authorities no more than eighteen months prior to the date of application. Must also undergo a Class 1A Flight Physical Examination in addition to the one conducted at the MEPS and have results approved by Flight Surgeons at Fort Rucker, Alabama, prior to the selection board. The Flight Physical must also be less than 18 months old.

Your scores on the test will be one of the most important factors.

It is very hard, active duty military enlisted can also request the position, and they have a priority if all other scores are equal normally.

A 2 year degree can help but the scores are really importaant
Rotary winged fly nothing like an airplane

AIT is not like basic, you will have more time off

With your GPA, why aren't you looking at an ROTC scholarship? Get you entire education paid for, and you can still get your wings as a commissioned officer, although you won't get as much flight time. But do you want to be a helicopter pilot for you whole life? Getting a full education and a commission will set you up for a wide range of careers.

If you get good IQ and mechanical aptitude scores in the army, you will be invited to OCS training.. After that you may elect to be a warrant officer and be a helicopter pilot. Fixed wing training is not a help for helicopters, different principle. Maybe it has changed by now. It was offered to me, but I was drafted and would have to add sign for two years after the 8 months of treaining. Should have, but didn't.

If you are already worried about how hard it is, you'll never make it. IF you really want it, it wouldn't matter how hard it is. To begin, learn how to spell better.
