A turbinate resection is where they cut out either part or the entire turbinate inside the nose. A turbinate is a shelf like structure that filters, humidifies, and warms air passing though the nose. Sometimes the turbinates swell and cause congestion and blockage. I had Inferior turbinate reduction and deeply regret it, as it has completely ruined my life. It has made my breathing much worse and has caused lots of other problems. I strongly advise you to avoid any surgery of the nasal tissue. Try everything you can before getting surgery. I recommend taking anti-inflammatories like chlorella, colostrum, garlic, and lots vegetables. If you really make an effort you'll find that almost all health problems could be resolved through diet and natural remedies. If you are stubborn and are going to get surgery anyway, at least make sure the doctor is conservative. Know exactly what procedure the doctor is preforming and tell them not to remove too much tissue. NEVER LET THEM COMPLETELY REMOVE YOUR TURBINATES. In my case, too much tissue was removed and now I suffer from what is called empty nose syndrome. for information on turbinates, turbinate surgery, and empty nose syndrome go to this website.

Turbinate resection is where they go in your nose and cut out some of the tissue off of the turbinates and then cauterize the tissue so they won't swell up so large. It will help you breath better but you have to realize only God can do surgery without swelling. So you will be stuffy for a month or so. There are two types of edema(swelling) the watery edema which will go away in about 2 weeks then the brawny edema which takes a month or so. After having the surgery you want to make sure you use ALOT of saline rinse for your nose. The cleaner you keep your nose, the faster you will heal

Do not get this surgery, I got empty nose syndrome from this type of surgery. Now I wish everyday to die a quick death. ENS feels like having double lung failure, suffocating 24/7. The turbinates measure oxygen intake and send the info to the brain and heart, when damaged, you truly feel like dying. I didnt sleep for the first 2 months, tried to commit suicide, now im on morphine patches to calm my nervous system down from complete neural meltdown.
